Powers High

1: Oops...

My name is Rochelle and I go to Powers High after an accident at my old school when I nearly set someone on fire. In my defense, they were throwing a dodge ball at my face. But now, I'm glad I did it, because now I get to go to a school with other people like me. A school full of Casters, witches and Elementals. It is an amazing school, and the way there is from my school! There is an old cupboard that doesn't open, even though the school got people with crowbars and people who tried to get the hinges off. That cupboard is my way into Powers High. With a few magic words, aprire le porte ad alte potenze, the doors swing open and you see an empty hole. All you have to do is take a leap of faith and jump. After exactly 3 minutes and 23 seconds, you land on the beanbag covered floor of the entrance to Powers High. 

But before I go too far, i should probably tell you why I nearly set someone on fire. Well, here goes...

It was PE and we were playing dodge ball. My team was losing, but only because we had all of our good players eliminated. Except me. In this version of the game, when you get hit, you go to the other side. Then if you get hit again, you swap back over and so on. I was the last original player who hadn't swapped at least once. Even the best guy was taken out in the first 5 minutes. I knew about my powers then, and I was practicing in private everyday. I knew that with my powers, I had incredible agility as well. Then Jonas, the best boy, was aiming a ball at me. I knew if I didn't react, it would hit me in the face, because he had an incredible aim. Just as he threw the ball, I back flipped and cartwheeled out of the way. Everyone gaped at me. I realised what I had done and went red. Jonas laughed at me and halfheartedly threw another ball. I caught it on the full, getting him out. Which meant he had to come to my side. Now the two best players were on one side. Soon we had another person out. Cade. He was my friend, still is, and he knows my secret. He goes to Powers High as well. A few minutes later, we had more people back on our team. Jamo, Lochie, JJ and Dom. The first three boys got out because they all tried to catch me out, diving for the ball, catching it, then dropping it, which is a fumble. Then Dom got out because he turned around and walked to get a ball. I pegged a ball at him, so he jumped. Jonas threw another one, faster than mine, and hit him in the back, pushing him into the out zone. So it was the 6 of us against the 14 of the others. Then I saw the teacher calling me over. I sighed. This happened a lot. The teacher often told me to 'take a break' because I stayed in too long without getting hit. 5 minutes later, I was allowed back in. Dom had gotten out again. He bent down to tie his shoelace right up front and center. Some people. The Cade came over and told me in a low tone, "I know you are the Sorceress."

I feigned innocence, "What," I wasn't really faking. I didn't know who the Sorceress was, but I guessed it was related to my powers. "I have no idea who she is."

"Show me your arm."

"No." What the hell. How did he know about the mark? I got it when I first found about my powers when I was 5. It is a spiral with lines crisscrossing it.

At different times, sections glowed different colours, depending on my emotions or what power I was using. When I back flipped, the the coloured sections were black and grey. I've seen it enough to know what happens. When I get angry, the spiral turns red. When I am sad the spiral is blue. When I am happy, the spiral glows purple, the colour of my magic energy. When I use magic, the spiral reverts to black and the section change. When I fly (I have wings), the sections go the same colour as my wings.

When I use fire powers, the sections go red, water turn blue, earth, green, and wind just goes clear, with a yellowish hue. When I am fighting, the colours change, going all different colours, purples, blue, pinks, oranges, yellow.  I could tell the spiral was pulsing red.

"Why not?"

"Because I don't wanna."

"I know you have a magic mark. I'll show you mine."

At this I paid attention. Cade has a spiral mark like mine?

"I'm the Sorcerer. I have to go back to Powers High soon. You should come with me. Just to learn how to fully control your powers."

I just nodded, slightly shocked. The Cade moves his sleeve up so I can see the spiral on his left arm. Mine is on my right arm.

I move my sleeve so he can see the mark I have on my arm. I drop my sleeve and go to walk back to the dodge ball game, only to already see myself throwing and dodging with my team, alongside Cade, even though he is right next to me. I look over to him. He just smiles and whispers and explanation to me.
