Each morning I get up I die a little...

*Beep*
"What?"
*Beep*
*Be-* Marie hit the 'dismiss' button of her alarm clock and sat up in her bed.
"Shit." Another day, new school. And, as usual, Marie's parents did not give two shits about waking up their daughter or letting her know that she was already twenty minutes late to school.
Marie searched in the stacks of still unpacked boxes for her bra. Then found it underneath the black extra large hoodie that she usually wore every day, the hoodie was two sizes too big for her but she liked it, it almost hid her boobs. Marie snapped on her bra, wrestled into the stupid uniform that she had to wear to school, then temporarily hid the blazer and dress shirt under her beloved hoodie, absolutely discarding the skirt and just putting on jeans. Gotham is too cold, dark, and wet to be wearing mini skirts.
Walking down the hallway to her parents to tell them that she was going, Marie stopped by the door to pick up her black Converse. She got to the door to see only her mother in bed.
"Hey, is there any way that you could give me a ride to school?" Marie leaned in the doorway and stood on her left foot to put her right shoe on, then the other way around. When she finished with her shoes, Marie took a step or two closer to the bed where her mother lay sleeping. "Mom?"
"What?" The groggy voice of Marie's mother came muffled out of a pillow.
"Could you drive me to school?" Marie repeated.
"No, didn't I tell you?" Marie shook her head as her mother sat up in her bead and flicked on the bedside lamp, casting a yellowish glow upon the already sun rise lit room. "Your father is taking the car to work every morning."
"And?"
"And you better get walking now because he left half an hour ago. He told me that you weren't ready to go and he couldn't be late for his first day."
"Okay. I'll see you when schools out. I'll message you or something if anything happens."
"Sure. See you later." With that Marie's mother, Clara, turned off the lamp and laid back down to rest.
So, Marie rushed out the door to her new school, Gotham Academy. Apparently it cost Marie's parents a lot to get her into this school, though Marie knew that she made it in on a scholarship. The family just got lucky that there happened to be a job for Marie's father, John, and a house that was pretty much perfect for them and their situation.
Marie finally got to the school after asking a couple of people for directions and pulling out her phone for her GPS on multiple occasions. Then she remembered that she was supposed to have met the headmaster for an interview/tour kind of thing. That was seventeen minutes ago. Marie was already planning out her explanation and excuses for being late. Car broke down, slept in, lost uniform stuff like that.
As soon as she walked through the creaking, iron gates of the school, she knew that it was way too fancy for her. Within the two minutes that Marie had been present at this school, she had already made a clumsy as fuck move and ran into a guy while going up the stairs. Luckily, the two were at the bottom of the stair case, so there wasn't much of a fall, but she knew there was no going back or making friends when she got a dirty look from a group of girls that all looked exactly the same. All had long blonde hair and fake smiles.
"God- I am so sorry." Marie stood and offered the guy sitting on the first stair a hand up. He took her hand and stood next to her.
"It's all fine." The boy with black hair took off his sunglasses, revealing his perfect blue eyes and looked her up and down, eyes resting on her legs for some reason. "Jeans."
"What?" Marie looked at her legs and then at the rest of the girls with almost all of their legs showing. "Oh."
"You are obviously new." Marie nodded. "And you must be lost." Again, she nodded. "I'm Richard, or Dick, if you can be mature enough with the name."
"I can." Marie confirmed, as they started walking, Marie didn't know where, but they went up like two flights of stairs and took lefts and rights.
"Well that's good." Soon Richard and Marie were standing in front of the office. "This is where I drop you off and pick that up." Dick pointed to another dark haired, blue eyed kid. The boy looked up to reveal a black eye. "Jason, you have been going to this school for fifteen minutes and you have already gotten into a fight?"
"Sorry Dick." He wasn't sorry. Dick didn't know that the reason Jason got into a fight was because he overheard some guys talking shit about his family, and they weren't getting away with it. Then two boys who looked to be Dick's age walked out of the office doors. One had both his eyes black and blue, his nose was being kept from bleeding everywhere by a piece of tissue, and looked like he must have at least sprained his wrist. The other's lip was bleeding, had one black eye, and was holding his side.
"Damn." Marie breathed and then let out a small chuckle.
Dick was also smirking proudly, but he didn't want any one to think he was okay with violence, so he quickly wiped his smile off and said. "Don't encourage him."
Marie laughed again and Jason just stared at her, smiling and proud of himself for being her current source of amusement. "Sorry. I guess I should go in there and ask about my schedule." She started waling through the doors. "Oh, Thank you Dick."
"Yeah, no problem." Dick smiled at her and then turned back to see Jason still staring at Marie until she walked through the door. Then he smacked the back of Jason's head.
"Ow!" Jason rubbed his head even though it shocked him being hit more than it hurt. "What was that for? I already apologized for beating those assholes up."
"I call dibs."
"What? Come on." Jason stood and practically chased Dick, who was smirking.
"Yeah." Dick started walking to his class with Jason at his heels.
"No fair."
"So fair."
"Fuckin- How?"
"I saw her first. Also," Dick smacked his brother's head again. "Language."
"Asshole."
