Ponyboy always loved Dally. It was a given. He'd blush when he saw him. He'd stumble over his words. He couldn't stop thinking about him.
One day when he was walking home from the movies, he finally gathered up the courage to tell him how he felt. He even got flowers for him.
He confidently walked closer to the bus stop when he saw Dallas with a girl. He was... flirting with her and she was... laughing at his jokes... then, he leaned down and kisses her...

Pony felt his heart sink. All he wanted was for Dally to realize how much he loved him. And now he thought that Dal didn't even care.
Dallas looked over toward Ponyboy and noticed the flowers. He froze. Pony dropped the flowers and ran. Ran fast and never looked back.

Tears began to stream down his face. He runs home slamming the door behind him.
"Hey Pony, where you been?" Sodapop says with a smile in his face.
"I don't want to talk about it!" He yells running up the stairs and slamming their bedroom door behind him.
He flung himself on the bed and cried into his pillow. He wanted nothing more than to have Dally love him back. Now that he knew he didn't, he didn't know what to do other than stay in the room and cry.
"Pony come on, open the door kiddo," Sodapop says.
Pony just lied there not listening to him. He didn't want to move. He didn't want to do anything.
"Dally wants you. He's on the phone..."
He sat up and wiped his eyes. He didn't want to talk to him but he knew he had to. He opened the door to find Soda standing there waiting for him.
"Pony..." He whispered.
"I just want to talk to Dal, then I'm coming back here and not moving," Pony said his voice muffled and raspy from crying.
He walked down the stairs and to the phone.
"Hey Dal..." He said trailing off with a sigh.
"Pony look I-"
"What is there to say?" Pony says clearly annoyed, "those flowers I had. They were for you. I had those for you! All I wanted to tell you was that I love you, but never mind..."
"Pony I'm coming over. Stay where you are," Dallas says hanging up the phone, not allowing Ponyboy to say anything more.
Pony's eyes eyes became wet with tears. He hung up the phone and looked at the clock. It was 6:00 pm and the sun was starting to set.

Dallas knew something was wrong. It was a jerk move to be flirting with that girl. He loved Ponyboy. He never wanted to break his heart. He ran to the house and came through front door. Pony was sitting in Darry's chair, his eyes wet with tears.

Ponyboy stood up and looked at Dallas, who had a worried look on his face. Dally ran over to him and hugged him close.
"I didn't know Ponyboy..." He said burying his face in Pony's hair.
"I can't keep it in forever Dal... I love you!" Pony's voice was muffled because it was in Dally's jacket and he was crying.
"Don't cry kid," Dallas says kissing his forehead, tears in his own eyes, "I love you so much!"

Stay with me Dal, please?
I wouldn't leave you for the world, kid.
