27. Phantastic Lies (Bday Pt 1)

Start from the beginning

I jumped out of bed, and pulled his hand. "C'mon let's go." I said eagerly, tugging on him. Erik stood still as a statue and didn't even flinch as I tried desperately to move him.

I finally gave up, exhausted, "Trust fall." I breathed, dramatically collapsing sideways. Erik easily caught me with with his body. This wasn't the first time I did that to him.

I looked up at him, my right side against him. I could tell he was fed up with my immaturity this early in the morning. I wiggled my eyebrows suggestively and nodded my head upwards once, "Wattup."

He rolled his eyes in amusement, sat me up straight, and walked into the bathroom to freshen up. The door shut, and I heard the shower running. I made a pervert face at the door he was behind, but walked out of the room. I didn't feel like bugging him anymore.

I closed the door and walked into the living room to wait. I passed the calendar and stopped in my tracks, "Hey~." I drawled out, looking at the calendar.

I smiled at the date, "I completely forgot!!" I said, smacking my forehead. I turned on my heel, skipping into the living room. I plopped onto the couch and snuggled a decoration pillow. "It's my 16th birthday!" I sang, giggling a little.

I smiled at the ceiling, and I smiled even wider when I realized something else.

Three more days and I'd been with Erik for a full year.

Many minutes past till I heard the bedroom door open. I turned my head to see Erik rubbing his cleanly shaven face with satisfaction. I smiled, "You look nice." I complimented.

He smiled, "Thank you, I didn't do anything different though." He shrugged and walked into the hallway to get his cloak, gloves, and fedora.

I picked at my nails as I stared at the ceiling. 'I hope our little exploration won't be a disaster.' I worried for no reason, biting my lip.

I didn't hear Erik come in, but sensed his presence, and sat up. He tugged on his last black leather glove, his fedora casting an eerie shadow over his face. The cloak made him look like a tall, lean shadow.

"You look very intimidating, E."

He looked up sharply, his eyes no longer a welcoming, soft honey color, but now the intimidating yellow color of a cat's. It was so bright and piercing I gasped a bit.

He cocked his head to the side in confusion, "Faith?"

I shook my head, "I'm good, just thought of somethin." I lied. His sudden change surprised me.

It occurred to me that this version of Erik, the one in the Phantom attire, was the one I was expecting from the very beginning. The one I met. I always thought he'd be that mysterious and threatening being. Well I was wrong. In reality, I grew to love all sides of him. The mysterious Phantom, the musical genius, the prankster, the compassionate companion and more. Without the Phantom attire, he was just as normal and sweet as any other man. That's what I loved about him, there was always a challenge to take on when he changed personalities.

I let go of my thoughts and walked up to him, "Is my attire okay?" I said, twirling a bit and looking up at him.

He nodded, "It's all dark colors so it'll do. I wouldn't have had you put on a dress anyways, it'd be too much of a hassle."

I nodded, "Agreed."

"So." He said, starting to turn and holding out his arm, "Ready to go?"

I smiled, taking his arm, "Such a gentleman." I teased, "Yes I'm ready!" I said excitedly.

Erik gave me a side smile and lead us out to the catacombs. I was very excited. I was going to spend the day with Erik while exploring the Opera House! What could be better than that?!

I unlocked his arm from its gentleman position and set his hand to his side. I then enlaced our fingers and swung our hands between us a bit.

I saw him smile and he squeezed my hand. We walked for awhile in silence. I then broke it.

"Erik?" I said, my voice echoing a bit.

"Yes?"

I bit my lip and looked up at him, trying to be romantic, "What did you think of me when we first met? In the catacombs?"

He stared straight ahead, no sign of emotion on his face, "Well I thought you were quite annoying to be honest."

My mouth dropped and I stared up at him.

He looked down at me, amused at my expression, "What? You wanted the truth." He said, turning forward again.

I punched his arm lightly, "I thought you'd say something nice!" I pouted, crossing my arms across my chest and walking on the other side of the tunnel.

"Well. I thought you were quite a fake the moment I heard your "Phantom" threats." I stuck my nose up in the air. "You didn't scare me one bit. Your act was quite corny and boring."

I heard him humph with amusement, "Oh really?" He teased, walking sideways to be next to me.

"Yes." I said, not looking at him but forwards.

He took my crossed arms and enlaced our hands again, swinging them between us.

He leant up close to my ear, I felt his hot breath on my neck. I clenched my jaw.

"Liar."
