AFTER

Tonight the sky is this weird shade of blue-grey mixed with pink and a deep purple and orange all tied into one big canvas and the end result is one stunning sunset. It's so bright and colorful, almost like its standing up to the humans of earth, shouting, begging, daring people to look at the beauty of it. Saying that "this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, so admire me and all of my beauty while you have the chance!"

So I listen to it.

We're sitting on the side of the road, I pulled onto the gravelly shoulder a while ago, back when the sky first started shouting at me. Sam is at my side. We're on the hood of my truck and we're locked together, every inch from shoulder to foot is touching. I'm surprised he's sitting this close. There's been a burning tension between us and we've been at each other's throats all day.

"I honestly don't know how to feel anymore." His voice is low and hoarse. Out of every sunset there's ever been, this is the one he's going to ruin. This is the one that's going to make us fight again and ruin the peace that's not-so-settled between us at the moment.

"About what?" I whisper.

"You. Me. Us."

"I don't either."

"Do you still want this?" I pause at his question. What do I say? No? What if I hurt his feelings? I need to be honest, I don't want to be stuck in something I don't want to be stuck in.

"I don't know. Do you?" He sighs. Maybe he's given up for today. "I don't know."
