Chapter 1 ~ Blythe

My eyes snapped open as the alarms started blaring through the speakers in the base.

I immediately jump out of bed, grab my gear, and swiftly start pulling it on as I run towards the base's weapons room where I'll meet up with my team.

Shouting echoes around the room as we each complete a weapons check.

I grab my Ka-Bar, Glock 19, Beretta 92, and hesitate before grabbing the M24 sniper rifle. I then grabbed my throwing knives and slid them into the hidden sheaths all over my body.

As I'm finishing strapping on the last knife, my team comes up to me, Blaire in the lead. Gaelin, Parker, Devon, and Keagan followed closely behind by another woman and man. "Major," Blaire says, motioning to the other people with them. "This is Quinn," she motions to the black-haired girl. "And this," she says, pointing to the tall, muscular, blonde, "is  Blake. They will be posted with us for this mission as a test run. If they pass, they'll be on the team permanently."

I looked each of them over carefully, having already read their files, I knew what they could do on the battlefield, I knew basically everything about each of them, but I still trusted my gut instincts when it came to people, and after meeting them face to face, my gut was telling me that I could trust them .

I got up and looked at each of them as they saluted me, "I'm Major Blythe Xalier, welcome to the team," I said. I gave them a grin, "At ease. Are you all good to go on weapons and amo?" "Yes, ma'am." They reply. "I want one more check, then we wait for our orders. We depart at seven hundred hours."

"Yes ma'am!"

"Dismissed."

They each relaxed but only Blaire wandered off.

As we waited we started talking to the new addition to our team. We were soon laughing about one of their brothers antics at a wedding, and how they used to get into so much trouble together.

Somehow, the topic switched to what was happening that required us, the best of the best in black ops, the ghosts, the silent killers attacking in the night, the assassins.

"I've got friends in a few places, and from what they've told me, it is something huge. They said every single unit was being activated, and they also heard whispers that we aren't fighting against our enemies, but instead, there have been meetings between all the leaders of all countries in the world, and they are ALL working together on this." Quinn said, pushing her hair behind her ear.

Gaelin was looking over at me, her dark eyes studying me thoughtfully. "What do you think is the most likely, Major?"

I looked over at them, then looked down at my gun that I was cleaning and sighed deeply.

"Aliens." I said.

"Excuse me?"

"What?"

"C'mon!"

"That's... actually...a likely scenario." Keagan sounded almost surprised.

"What?!" They said collectively, staring at him.

"Think about it. Is there actually anything in this world that would scare even our worst enemies into standing together and fighting together? Plus if we are all being sent out to fight, then who are we fighting? It can't be any thing from this Earth, since we are all fighting together, so who are we fighting that has scared everyone so much?" He asks them.

"And when we say aliens, it doesn't mean they are anything like what most people think. In fact, if aliens were real, then they would most likely look a lot like us and would have evolved like us." He added.

They all look at each other in shock. Then Quinn says, "Well, I'm pretty sure we've all seen more shocking things in our line of work."

"Yeah, honestly, it's really not that much of a stretch, all things considered..." Blaire trailed off.

At some point in time she had wandered back over to the group.

"Yeah, oh! Did you all see Jamison the other day? He tried to touch one of the SEALs' sisters, and the girl kneed him where the sun doesn't shine and then her brother found out and he through him through a door and into the women's restroom!" Blaire said, all of them laughing at the memory.

I felt my lips twitch into a tiny smirk for just a second.

I suddenly got this feeling. The feeling that I was being watched. I went to alert. I scanned the room, my muscles contracting, ready to spring at any second, but I found nothing. I looked back around one more time before I went back to cleaning my weapons, still on alert. I knew someone was watching, it happens all the time and it is easily dealt with.

I smirk on the inside, thinking of the man the cartel sent, but what bothered me this time is that I didn't know who was watching, and I didn't know why.

The feeling didn't go away, and by the time that we were called into the mission room, debriefed on the situation, and deployed, I was jumpy and on edge.

"You good, Major?" Parker quietly asks me, coming up behind my left shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm good." I say, looking over at him and then back. I shake the feeling off for now, and focus on the mission. As I listen to the good-natured ribbing and joking in the Hawke, I thought about the odd feeling. I'm sure I know what it was, but I wish I knew who is coming.
