So we start right here. Here where everything seemed to make a change. On a bench. On a bench where a now 23 year old girl named Katrina sits. She sits there every day. Every day, and night, she sits there, hoping for a better day to come. All she has is a book, a pillow, a blanket, and an umbrella. Now that umbrella may be the most important object in her whole life. It is huge, and massive, with four colours on it. With the four most important colours. Blue, pink, black, and yellow. Each one of them stands for an emotion. Blue; for positivity, pink for love, black for sadness, anxiety and depression, and yellow for happiness. This umbrella is really important for Katrina. For many reasons, but some of them should stay hidden for now. This umbrella saves her from everything. Sun, rain, snow, birds, and bad people. Literally, no goes to Katrina with a bad intention. Not because everyone likes her, but because everyone feels sorry for her. She has been living on the streets since she was 18, she has been crying on those streets everyday since she was 18. No one knows why she's there, and basically no one knows everything about her. All they know that she lives on that brown bench, and she is always reading her book. She has been reading that exact book everyday since she's living on the streets. She reads it with the same amount of enjoyment everyday, but I am sure she knows it by heart. Sometimes, when kids come and sit next to her, she reads to them. Both the kids, and Katrina enjoys it. It is a cold winter day, and Katrina is curled up with her blanket, under her umbrella, reading her book.
Today is a really special day. A young businessman called Gary Black, just moved into the city with his two nieces and one nephew. Though he's only 24, and he is raising three kids. Gary's sister in law and his brother passed away just after the youngest kid's birth. They were going to Gary's mother, to take her home with them, and they got into an accident. Since then Gary had to raise the kids. He does not have any special girls in his life, so he's raising the kids all alone. The oldest one Casey is becoming 14, the middle child Maya is 12, and the youngest boy is Robbie, whom is 4. So lets get back to now. They are walking downtown to get some warm drinks. They are walking on Katrina's street. Casey looks at Katrina, and Katrina looks back. Casey sees the pain in her eyes, and she gets a feeling she can't understand. It is a mixture of pity, fear, and sympathy. They stare into each others eyes, until Casey breaks the connection. Katrina looks away too, and continues her book.
"Look at that girl, the girl on the bench. She looks weird. Kind of creepy, and mysterious, and she has that weird umbrella."-comments Casey with a little bit of caring in her voice.
"Casey, she is homeless"-says Maya with a monotone, i don't care type of voice
"What is homeless?"-asks Robbie with the most innocent voice anyone can imagine.
"Robbie, don't act dumb. You know what is homeless."-says Maya again, with no caring in her voice.
They keep on talking, whilst Gary decides to look at Katrina. The moment he looks at her, Katrina looks back. Gary feels a spark, a kind of connection he never felt before. He stops. He feels like there is something special about Katrina, and he could look at her for ages. This time Katrina breaks the connection. Gary doesn't care, he keeps looking at her. He notices that she is cold and looks very pale. He starts feeling really sorry for her, and he also gets the same as Casey. He wants to help, but he doesn't dare. Yet.
"Come on Gary. We should go."- says Casey. The kids call him Gary, because it makes their connection a little bit more personal. Everyone else calls him Mr. Black, except the kids.
Gary starts walking again, and they go into the café that is just in front of Katrina's bench. They sit outside and talk, but Gary can't stop looking at Katrina. He can only think about her.
When they finish, they decide to go home. Their home is a big apartment with 4 four rooms, including the kitchen and the living room. Gary keeps thinking about Katrina the whole night. He can't stop thinking about the girl with the umbrella.
Katrina decides to end the day early. She also can't stop thinking about Gary. She hopes that he'll appear again someday.
So this was the first chapter. Tell me how you like it, and your opinion. Please be nice though.
