The little boy sat in his old, oak wood, rocking chair, under the same birch tree he grew up with in his small yard.
The boy thought, he thought about the future he would never have and the friends that had left him the dust. This boy thought about the death of his mother, his only parent, and how it had affected him.
See, this sad little boy used to be cheerful and energetic, but after the traumatic event of his mother's death, he became half-hearted and lethargic. He begun to say things people he wouldn't even dare say before. All of the friends he once had, now showed hostility towards him.
As the boy rocked back and forth, oblivious to his surroundings, he heard a soft hum from the meadow across from his small home. He looked towards the meadow and there sat a girl collecting flowers into a small, wicker basket. She hummed a tune so joyous and lively. He listened to her little tune and wondered how this girl could be so happy.
She looked over and saw him looking confused. He quickly turned his head away, as if to hint the fact that he wanted to be left alone, but she walked towards him. He got up off the chair and turned away, but she kept walking and quickly caught up to him.
"What is your name?" She asked.
"What does it matter to you?" He replied coldly.
He assumed if he acted coldly towards her she'd leave him alone, but she kept persevering.
"You look sad," she stated.
"Can I ask you a question?" the boy said. "How is it that you are so happy, even after I spoke to you so callously?"
"Because you are only trying to push me away. Do you truly wish to be alone or do you secretly want ones company, but won't admit it?" She asked.
"I do not wish to be cared for, I'm fine
on my own." I said quickly, looking away.
Truly he knew that she was right. He did want someone to talk to or be his friend, but he had already pushed away all his friends.
"Forgiveness," she said looking me in the eye. " You need to apologize for the things you've said and done, or you cannot redeem yourself.
The boy looked surprised at the girl he had never seen until today.
"Why do you care?"
"Because often, those who aren't the easiest to love are the ones who need it the most."
And just like that the girl disappeared, leaving the boy to stare blankly into the meadow, where he could still hear the faint humming of the girl in his mind.
