Darkness.
It was darkness that was her best friend.
It was darkness that helped her fall into a dreamless sleep every single night.
Darkness that was with her when she cried her soul out. Darkness that made her feel safe and secure.
But there was still a little light within her. This light was called HOPE.
Hope that maybe one day she would find someone who'd believe in her and would make her feel alive once again.
She was so young, so damaged, yet, she always managed to make others happy. Why? Because that was the kind of girl she was.
She was utterly alone. She had friends, but no true friends. She had a family, yet she felt like she didn't belong with them. Her younger sister seemed to hate her, just like her parents. Her grandmother treated her better than her parents, although she also seemed to favour her sister more. It was almost as though she was the black sheep of the family.
She spent all her free time in her bedroom, thinking she wasn't wanted. Besides, they seemed like a perfect little family without her. It wasn't like she was a good girl either. She acted out because of her parents. She never studied unless she had exams coming up. It was either she was sleeping or reading in her free time. That made her parents crazy.
It felt like her parents always found excuses to criticise her though, but she was used to it. So, she sought solace from the darkness.
Even at school, she was well loved by many people and she was someone extraordinary but still she wasn't popular, in fact she had just as many haters. But she never gave two shits about them and carried on with her life. She had three awesome best friends she absolutely adored and she trusted them with her heart, but still they had never known she cried herself to sleep. Why? Because she knew they'd feel nothing but sympathy towards her and she hated the look of pity they would give her.
Every time something bad happened to her, all she would wish was to die! So many times she had come close to slashing her wrists with a knife or drinking various pills to cause an overdose, but she couldn't because she was a coward.
She kept praying though, kept a little hope within her that maybe God would forgive her for whatever she had done to deserve that kind of life. He never answered though and eventually she gave up. She was tired of begging for forgiveness and tired of hoping that maybe one day her life would be easier. So she stopped asking God to take her away from her cruel life and stopped asking for any miracle. She just sat there and got through her days in the darkness.
She loved romance novels so much that she'd started hoping one day she'd be in love with someone as extraordinary as the characters in her books. That never happened, though. Instead, she found an asshole who had broken her not-so-full heart.
When she was with him, it would seem as though the light shined throughout the room as it overcame the darkness. It was as though he lit her up like the Fourth of July! But when he dumped her, she was devastated and the darkness sheathed her once again.
They'd only lasted for two weeks and the worst part was that before they had started going out, he was one of her best friends. So, when she lost him, she had felt like she lost a piece of herself.
He was her first boyfriend and yet he didn't even know. She had lied about having her first boyfriend just because all her friends had boyfriends except her. Now, that's what you call peer pressure!
She practically stopped believing in love after that time and completely gave up on dating.
But still, she could never stop reading about love for she put herself in the writer's shoes and the characters' shoes. Reading always kept her imagination flowing.
Another aspect that helped her get through her day was music. Music was her addiction and she literally could not live without it. She got so lost into the music that she would forget all about the world and her problems in life. She always listened to music before she slept, no matter what the time.
Darkness + Music + Reading = Endurable life.
She was quite extraordinary, yet she felt like crap. She was beautiful inside and out, yet she felt ugly and pathetic. She was talented and funny, yet she felt useless and boring. She was special and unique, yet she felt invisible and used.
She had the most beautiful eyes but she ruined them by crying all the time. She also had gorgeous toned skin which she destroyed with scars.
That was her way of showing how much she hated her wretched life. She even stopped expecting anything in life because expectations were the cause of unhappiness.
She completely gave up on God and love and happiness and hope... until one very shockingly preposterous night.
