The President was sitting awkwardly in the waiting room of the hospital. His bodyguards were at either side of him. He paid them no mind, though. He just waited for the nurse to update him on Eliza.
After about five hours of waiting patiently, a nurse tapped on his shoulder. His bodyguards got riled up, but with a flick of Washington's hand, they went silent.
The intimidated nurse said to him, "You can see them now."
The nurse showed George to the room Eliza was in. When he walked in to the room, Alexander and Eliza turned to him. Eliza had a bundle in her arms.
Eliza smiled warmly, yet tiredly. "It's a boy."
The President gingerly walked towards the bed. Alex nodded.
Alex said, "His name is Philip. And yes, you can hold him."
Eliza handed him the little bundle. Washington held the tiny baby in his arms and smiled at him. Individual tears sprang from his eyes. The baby fussed at him.
Eliza looked at her husband. "You should go check on Aaron and Theodosia in the next room."
The Secretary of Treasury looked at his wife like she was crazy. "They're here?"
Eliza nodded. She shooed him out of the room.
Alex walked into the next room to look at the little bundle in Theodosia's arms. Aaron looked at him, confused.
The newborn fussed in Theodosia's arms. "What are you doing here, Alexander?"
"Eliza's in the next room. Our baby's name is Philip."
Aaron's brain seemed to click. "Her name is Theodosia. How is Eliza?"
"She's fine, besides for the agony of labor. How are you, Theodosia?"
The woman seemed to finally acknowledge his presence. "Tired." She cooed at the purple bundle in her arms. "But Theodosia Jr. was worth it."
Alex smiled. "It's a beautiful name." He walked over to see the baby. He looked back at Aaron. "She has your eyes."
Aaron smiled warmly at the old friend. The start of many.
