Chapter 1

Welcome to my world of wonder, full of fairies, elves, dragons, and so much more. Hi my name is Periwinkle, people call me Peri for short. I’m a girl with curly blond hair, I’m 15, I have blue eyes, and I have periwinkle wings (which is where I got the name from). I’m part fairy and elf. My mother is who I got the fairy genes from, and my father is an elf. I have two close friends, Rosetta and Drake, they’re both fairy hybrids. Rosetta is a beautiful girl who has red hair, freckles, green eyes, and beautiful wings that change colors in the sunlight. Drake is a handsome man who has black hair, red eyes, and has black wings. Now that we have everything settled time to tell you about when the greatest adventures of my life started.
It was October and it was only 2 days away from my 15th birthday. When a mythical being turns 15 their magic ability gets unleashed. As children we do have some magic powers, but we don’t get all of it until we turn 15. Both of my friends are younger than me, but not by much. Our moms are really close friends and they got pregnant around the same time, so they all had the same dues dates. I was born early, Rosetta was born the next day, and Drake was born an hour after Rosetta.
So anyway, I was flying to school with Rosetta and Drake like always when Rosetta asked “What type of magic do you think you will get?” I answered “ Well my mom and dad both have plant growing abilities so I will maybe get it too,”
“Well what kind do you want?”
“Um… I don’t really care.”
“I want heat magic.”
“I can see you getting that.”
Soon enough we arrived at school. I have a flying class first period, I’m the best in my class, up until today when the new kid arrived. Ace. He has dark brown hair, hazel eyes, pointed ears, and yellow wings. He beat my record for flying the mile. That made me mad, no one beats me in flying. At first I thought my next class, history, would be safe, but as you can tell Ace was there too. He sat at the desk to my right and then he said “Hey,” I didn’t want to be rude so I said hey back. He was in all eight of my classes which sucked because all the pixies were fawning over him. We spoke again after 8th period, “Hey,”once again I replied “Hey.”
“You’re in my classes right?”
“Yeah.”
“Your name is Periwinkle?”
“Yeah and your name is Ace?”
“Yep, nice to meet the girl who’s record I broke’’ he said in a joking manner.
“Shut up, I was close to breaking it anyway.”
“Says the fairy who finished two minutes after me,”
“Whatever. I have to go, I’ll talk to you tomorrow.’’I said as I ran to catch up with Rosetta and Drake.
“Who’s that?” asked Drake.
“Isn’t that the new kid? He’s kinda cute,” commented Rosetta.
“To answer both of your questions his name is Ace, yes he’s the new kid and how could you think that?”
“Well he is,why don’t you think so?”asked Rosetta.
“I don’t feel comfortable listening to this,” said Drake
“Plug your ears then,” said Rosetta.
“Wow rude…” stated Drake.
“Would you guys stop, and Rose to answer your question, I just don’t.”
We soon reached Rose’s house and we said our goodbyes. “So,” Drake said, “do you really think… that Ace isn’t attractive?”
“Well he isn’t bad looking.”
“Okay…”
We soon reached Drake’s house and I was alone. All I could think about is how annoying Ace the pixie is. He made me so mad that I started sparking and fairies only spark when they are frustrated, mad, or upset. From what I can tell I’m all three and then some.
I finally arrived home after taking three detours, that happened because of Ace distracting me. For the rest of the day I had a hard time concentrating on my work.  Luckily when I fell asleep I didn't dream about him, but when I was dreaming it wasn’t a normal dream it was like a dream that seemed real. The dream had dragons, fighting, magic, basically everything you would read in a fairy tale except that the dragon was on my side.
The next day I went downstairs and talked to my parents about my dream.
“So what do you guys think?” I asked. Silence neither of them said a word all they did was stare at each other with wide eyes. “What?” I asked. Still nothing, after a while I gave up and headed to school. When I met up with Rosetta and Drake I told them my dream.
    “Wow so cool” said Rose
    “That sounds crazy but at the same time really epic,” said Drake.
    “When I told my parents they just stared at me like I was crazy. I think it’s the dragon that threw them off because I’ve never seen one in real life”
    “Well we’ve seen pictures at school?” said Rose
    “That’s different those are only drawings,” stated Drake.
    “Well there’s also the fact that dragons haven’t been seen in awhile so that’s why we don’t have pictures and don’t forget, dragons and other mythical beings don’t get along the best,” I explained.
    “Why are we taking this so seriously though?” asked Drake.
    “Because we like to be stupid and take things seriously even if they’re dreams,” stated Rose.
    We finally arrived at school when I found Ace waiting for us at the front door. All I could think is why is he here? With my birthday being one day away I had a harder time controlling my magic whenever I had strong emotions. When I saw him sitting there my heart started to race, my hands got all sweaty, and this weird cloud surrounded me. I think it was because I didn’t want to see him.
“Hey,” said Ace
“Hey,”
“Who are your friends?” Ace asked
“Oh this is Drake and this is Rosetta. We call her Rose for short,” I said.
“Hi,” Rose and Drake said simultaneously
Just then the bell rang and we all rushed to class. Of course since Ace and I have the same classes we flew to each class together. Ace is actually a pretty funny guy, he’s also a lot of help when it comes to homework, and don’t forget a good racing partner. I have no clue why I was judgemental about him. I think it could be because he’s part pixie, but I’m not usually prejudiced against pixies. They’re basically fairies but with pointed ears. Soon the day was over and at that time all I could think about was that I was getting my powers tomorrow.
“So are you excited?” asked Rose.
“What do you think I’m getting my powers tomorrow!” I yelled excitedly.
“What’s this about getting powers?” asked Ace who I didn’t even know was behind me.
“My 15th birthday is tomorrow,” I said
“That’s so cool mine is too!” Ace said.
“WHAT?!” we all said in unison.
“What?” he asked.
“Um… that means he’s a day older then us Rose…”said Drake
“Well at least Peri won’t be alone when she takes the test to see what type of powers she has,” said Rose.
“I’m still shocked at the fact you were born on the 28th like I was… How could this have happened?” I whispered to myself.
“You know these ears aren’t for show right?” Ace said as he winked at me, I blushed.
“Well anyway what type of powers do you want Ace?” Rose asked.
“I want to be able to control wind or have something that makes me fast. How about you guys?” Ace asked
“Well I want something that’s like me, warm and fuzzy,”said Rose proudly.
“Ha. Hilarious, but I want something where I create things, like life,”said Drake.
While everyone was talking, I couldn’t think of anything. All of a sudden the cloud came back and this time it had lightning in it. I’m guessing it was because I was thinking too hard.
“Whoa! When did you get a cloud?!” yelled Ace.
“Really? That’s the first thing you ask?” I said, but I was secretly thinking the same thing. After I said that, the cloud went away.
“Well, that was strange… When did you learn to do that?” Rose asked.
“It just happened it happened earlier today too. Maybe this is happening because it’s almost my birthday?’’ I said.
“Why isn’t it happening to me then?” Ace asked upset.
“Maybe because she’s going to be more powerful than you,” Drake said. I’ve never noticed till now how Drake’s wings fly faster when he talks to Ace.
“Whoa dude, chill no need to get your testosterone in a bunch,” Rose replied.
“Okay then… how was your day?” I asked. I was trying hard to change the subject, but all I did was create silence, which is fine with me.
Ace left to go home after a while, and then it was just Rose, Drake, and I. It was silent until Rose got to her place, she pulled Drake aside and did her whisper yelling thing. She waved good bye to me and shot Drake her legendary stare.
“What was that about?” I asked.
“She told me to tell you…” he started
“Tell me what?”
“Nothing…”
“Dude, come on tell me.”
“Oh look here’s my stop, good luck tomorrow!”
“Okay… thanks”
Rose and Drake are hiding something from me, but they won’t tell me what. I can tell because they stop their conversations whenever I pass by them in the hallways. Also whenever I talk to Drake, she stares at him with wide eyes waiting for something to happen. Of course Rose is always waiting for something to happen. She just has good senses she can normally tell if something good or bad will happen. When something good is about to happen her wings turn a pinkish color, and if something bad will happen her wings turn a dark purple.
I soon get home and see my parents sitting on the couch. They look proud, but at the same time worried.
“Honey we need to talk,” my mother said.
“What do we need to talk about? Did I do something wrong?” I asked.
    “No no you don’t need to worry yourself with thinking you’re in trouble,” my father said.
    “We just need to talk to you about your dream,” explained my mother.
    “What about it?” I asked.
    “Everything. Everything down to the last detail,” my father said.
    “Okay?” I said.
    “We need to know because we may have something important to tell you,” my mother said worriedly.
