Tristan's POV
Everything was going so well.
Miles and I broke up a bit after I "went back in time" or whatever the hell that was when all that craziness with Maya and Miles was happening. In fact, Maya was the reason why we broke up, at least that's what I thought anyways.
I saw the way he looked at her when she'd walk by him in the halls, making sure to avoid all the eye contact that she was able to. However, she'd sometimes break the pact with herself, and find that she'd be gazing into those troublesome but also saint-like eyes for what felt like decades, but was actually seconds in the bustling highway under the overpass known as Degrassi.
I tried to convince myself that it was nothing; just a near reminiscence on the past that they shared together. I tried to soothe myself to sleep with the thought that while he was with me, he wasn't thinking of her; that didn't go so well for me.
I tried everything to prevent the eruption of Mt. Triles that started bubbling up during the "intervention" that the Hollingsworth twins and I tried on him for his Weed Addiction, (come to think of it, I'm not too sure that's really a thing.. hmmmmm), but alas, things were coming faster and faster.
"Pathetic."
"Are you that desperate for someone to love you?"
What he said really hurt me, mostly because he was right. He didn't say it in a very pleasant tone (why would he?), but that's not what upset me. I didn't want to admit all the things that he said were true, but this moment kind of forced me to. Whether him and I rushed into a relationship or not was beyond me, and quite frankly wasn't a concern of mine in the least. I loved him, and I know that he loved me, so I had optimism and knew that things would get back to the way they were eventually.
Our relationship's troubles came out of its inactivity and became fully visible when I confronted him in the halls during that one cheerleading assembly, and that was also the time when I asked him about Maya, and whether or not he used me to make her jealous.
There was no response from him. When I asked him if he still had feelings for her, all I got was the silent treatment. I was done; I didn't want to be, but I knew it was for the best.
"Sayanora, Miles Hollingsworth."
A very "creative" goodbye on my end (I chuckled a little bit inside afterwards about how stupid my wording was; once I could joke about it a little bit that is), but that was basically how the last full out conversation Miles and I had played out; full of bitterness and heartbreak.
When I ran against him for student council president once the new term began, I almost had a meltdown; partly because I was still upset with him, but also because I just wanted to smash my lips against his (which we ended up doing at his campaign party in the midst of us arguing). It was a pretty confusing time for me. However, once I told Simpson about Miles' outrageous spending on his campaign party (which was due to me being petty and angry about everything, honestly), all hopes of me getting back together with him were crushed, for the time being anyways. I felt as if a part of me knew that his kiss at the party was full of ulterior motive and was just a ploy to get me to throw my campaign. I mean I missed his kisses, but there was something empty and lifeless about it. It was hard for me to face the reason it didn't feel like a genuine kiss probably was because it wasn't. I didn't even know if it was worth it anymore. I love him, I kept telling myself, and I knew that if I loved something hard enough, that nothing would stand in my way, and that we would always find our way to each other as if we were two parts of the same heart.
However, I also was being realistic about it (as I seldom am, so that was a big step for me), and remembered the famous saying about how if you love something, you should let it go. Looking back on the day of the election results, I feel as if that's what I was trying to do without me actually knowing that I was. If I pushed Miles far enough away, it would make it easier to let him go, and thus help me try to pick up the pieces of my life, right?
