It was a normal day for the four hamsters. The eldest brother hamster, named Tom, sat on a big couch that all four of the hamsters can easily fit into, reading the daily newspaper. As Tom skimmed through the long and boring articles, he finally found something that caught his eye. " Hey y'all, I found somethin' interestin'!", Tom squeaked. "What is it this time?!" Maddi said.Maddi wa the oldest female hamster of the bunch, "Last time you said you found something cool, it was just about a dumb tour. About trees. Boring...." Maddi said as she rolled her eyes. Pancake, the youngest hamster of them four squeaked, "Tom, Tom. Always reading newspapers. Sister told me that we should go out and play! Pretty please...?" Pancake then did puppy eyes on Tom. Tom argued "Well, I was to say it involved the outdoors, so don't ya complain." Cutie, the youngest female hamster of the four, which was probably also the most cutest hamster said: "Well, let's go!"
As the four hamsters ran out of the warm burrow, and felt the cool, strong breeze of the autumn wind, Tom shivered and said, "Hey y'all, it's too cold for me, why don't y'all go ahead, and I'll stay back home..." Maddi gave Tom a dirty look and argued, " Well, too bad. You wanted to go outside with us, and that is what you are going to do!" Maddi always acted like the mom of the four hamsters. Cutie and Pancake were running around, chasing each other. When Pancake saw the expression on Tom's face, he stopped running, and said, "What's wrong, bro? Anyways, can you tell us what you saw in the newspaper?" Tom's face lit up. "Oh ye, I almost forgot, y'all. So, what I saw in the newspaper was.. There is a treasure hunt with all y'all fellow hamsters in the neighborhood!" Tom practically chirped.
"OMG, OMG YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!" Cutie shrieked excitedly. Cutie had so many friends in her neighborhood, but because of how Tom never wanted to go outside, Cutie never got to see them. Cutie sprinted as fast as she could go with her tiny feet until Tom and and Maddi couldn't see her anymore. Pancake started running, too. Maddi muttered, "Finally, Tom did something right." Maddi half smiled and told Tom, "Let's go, they might get lost if they go too far." She grabbed Tom's arm and dragged him along as she ran through the colorful leaves on the ground.
Finally, when the four hamsters arrived at the treasure hunt, they were shocked by how crowded the place was. Cutie and Pancake both shrieked with excitement and disappeared into the crowd, trying to find their old friends. Tom and Maddi just stood there, admiring how pretty the scenery was. The hamsters added colors to the already colorful area. Just then, the placed blared with a raspy, old hamster's voice. Everyone turned to the side, and found a gray-furred hamster with a giant microphone. "Ahem." The elder hamster cleared his throat, and yelled into the microphone "SO, WHO'S READY FOR THE BEST TREASURE HUNT IN ALL OF THE HISTORY OF HAMSTERS'!!!!" The whole crowd cheered with excitement. He added "Well then. LET'S GET STARTED! Here is how this is going to work. Every family will receive a random card that will give them a random item they will have to search for in the neighborhood. Rules are: First, no complaining.Second, no cheating. And last but not least, Have fun!!" The whole crowd cheered again. Tom looked at Maddi with a smile. Maddi slowly smiled back.
The four hamsters finally received the card. Cutie squealed excitedly as she flipped the card to the side that showed which item they were going to try to find. As soon as she flipped the card, Cutie had a confused expression on her face. "What's wrong?" Maddi asked Cutie. "Umm, what's a toe sock?" Cutie asked.
The four hamsters glanced at each other. "Dagnabbit, I have naw idea." Tom said. Pancake ran around in circles until he got dizzy. Once he stood up, he had a surprised face on his face. "Wait, wait, wait! I think it is a type of sock.. But in the front it is toe shaped!" Pancake squeaked. "Ummm... Okay, whatever. Let's just try to find that." Maddi said, expressionless. The four hamsters ran into the neighborhood, looking around extra carefully, searching for the toe socks.
Tom spotted something that looked to him like a toe sock. "Hey y'all, look up there." Tom said, as he pointed on the ceiling of a house. Maddi rolled her eyes, and said "C'mon, Tom! Which hamster is that weird to put toe socks on the ceiling?" "It's worth a try." Cutie squeaked. The hamsters climbed up the tiny house, using crumpled leaves on the ground as a staircase. Finally, they reached the top of the house. "That looks like a bird! AH!!" Pancake screamed. Maddi panicked and squeaked "Ok, everyone slide down the roof using the leaves!" Everyone ran and slid down the roof.
"So, what do we do now?" Cutie said, irritated. Cutie then spotted a clothesline with what looked like toe socks, except Cutie knew for a fact it was toe socks. Cutie ran up to the house and crawled up the slippery house. She used the wee windows and doors like rocks when you rock climb, and quickly got up on the clothesline. "This is it, Cutie.", she muttered to herself as she used her tiny hands and feet to grip on the thin clothesline. "Yes! I found the toe socks-AHHHH!!!" She said proudly, but then she realized that she couldn't hold on to her weight anymore. "AHHH, I'M GONNA FALL!!!!!" Cutie screamed as loud as she could. It was no doubt the scariest moment of her life. She fell.
Just then, she felt something pulling her back. She was lifted higher and higher, until she got back on the clothesline. She looked behind her, and saw the other three hamsters. "Gotcha!" Tom grinned and said. Maddi squinted and said "Cutie! You freaked us out so much!" Cutie smiled and said "Well, I found the toe sock!" All four hamsters looked behind them and saw a pair of blue and purple toe sock shining in the sun. They all smiled.
Cutie and Pancake ran off in front of Maddi and Tom, playing what looked like as tag. They left Maddi and Tom behind, each lifting up one of the pair of toe socks that were much bigger than both of them. Maddi sighed, relieved. She closed her eyes for a few seconds and opened them, except her eyes were different than usual. They were big and dreamy and a beautiful brownish-black colored. She looked at Tom and said, "Isn't it fun to have a little fun once in awhile?" Tom looked back at Maddi and grinned. "If this is what y'all call fun, then why not?" Tom said as he looked up in the sky. And finally, after walking what seemed like forever, they got to the festival and were greeted by a lot of stares and whispering.
The stares turned into applauses and the whispering turned to cheering. All of a sudden, Pancake and Cutie came up and both, in unison said "Yay! Did you hear, we all won the grand prize in the treasure hunt! Squee!!!" Maddi and Tom stared at them in disbelief. Maddi said sarcastically "Haha, as if." The old hamster came up to them and said "Oh, no no. They were not kidding. You guys won the grand prize!" The crowd cheered and laughed. "So, what's the grand ol' prize?" Tom asked, still amazed. Cutie squealed "Free food for the whole winter!" Maddi grinned "Yes! Less work for us!" And they all laughed.
As the four hamsters were going home, no one talked. Everyone was too astonished to even breathe. Cutie finally broke the silence and told Tom "Thanks for finally going outside with us! It was so much fun!" Tom replied back and said "Well, I couldn't have done it without y'all!" And they all smiled.
