Rescue Me

Prologue

March 1, 2015, 8:30am New York Time. 

It's the first day of Maine's birth month and it's Sunday. The sun is up after an onslaught of a horrible storm yesterday.

They are still in the hospital after they rushed Teodoro, Maine's father 2 days ago due to heart attack. 

Maine decided to go to the church and hear the mass on that morning.

"Mom, I'll be out for an hour. Magsisimba lang po ako."

"Okay Iha. Be safe. Nandito na naman si Dynn para samahan ako." Mary Anne replied.

Dynn is her brother who just arrived from the Philippines.

"Sige Meng. Ako na muna ang bahala dito." Dynn replied. 

"I will Mom! Magkikita din po kami ni Jake sa church at sabay na po kami pabalik dito. Thank you Kuya!" 

Jake Sandoval, her boyfriend for almost a year already. 

They were in the middle of the mass when she received a beep from her Mom.

Meng, please come back asap. Your Dad is having a cardiac arrest and the doctor is reviving him.

After reading the text, she felt numb. And tears fall down from her eyes.

"Sweetie what's wrong?" Jake asked after he felt Maine's cold hand.

"Si Dad!" she answered as her voice breaks down.

They leave the church right away and rushed to the hospital.

All is calm when they arrived. Mary Anne who is sitting beside his father's bed is still crying. Dynn is not there. Maybe he's talking to their Dad's doctor.

"Mom, what happened?"

"Na-cardiac arrest ulit ang Dad mo buti na-revive sya ng doktor."

"Kamusta na sya Ho-- Tita?" Jake said.

Mary Anne felt shocked and widen her eyes to Jake.

"He's breathing but not as good as before. He needs to undergo a bypass operation to replace the damaged arteries in his heart." Mary Anne said as her voice rattled.

"So ano pa po ang hinihintay nila? Bakit hindi pa nila operahan si Daddy?" Maine asked without noticing the uneasiness between Mary Anne and Jake.

"Hindi pa pwede, Meng. We just have to wait for further results of some tests na ginawa nila kay Daddy." Dynn said as he enters the room.

"Don't worry Sweetie, everything will be fine." Jake said while comforting Maine.

Mary Anne feels awkward that's why she left the room.

Alden is home, watching his favorite TV series.

"Iho, why are you here? Wala ka bang gimik today?" Rosario asked as she enters his room.

"Wala po Ma!"

"Hmmm.. O baka naman may pinagtataguan ka na namang babae?"

"Ma, wala po! I wanna rest muna, just for this night. Yun lang!"

"Okay! I'm just checking you if you are okay. Eh mukhang okay ka naman so iwan na kita dito."

"Okay Ma. Good night!"

"Good night son!"

After Rosario left Alden on his room, his cellphone rings.

He saw Kim calling.
