“Didn’t pressure me into anything, which was cool since he was my first proper boyfriend so I didn’t exactly have the courage to jump his bones-“  she slapped a hand over her mouth at that to which I just smiled discreetly as I picked up my cup and drank some more of the blood, pretending I didn’t quite catch that. Another nervous chuckle, this was probably the first time she could open up so freely to a fellow Vampire.

“I think it was our 6th month together when he invited me out for a romantic picnic together late in the afternoon which was cool since we were supposed to go back to his house and watch some late-night movies like we always do. But this time…. It was different.” Her face scrunched up like she smelt something foul as he fingers wrapped around a long blue thread now half pulled from the base of her jumper.

“There was this little abandoned church at the far end of the commentary that he said you could watch the stars at night in… When he opened the door, he set up a little picnic in front of the altar with a little wicket basket and candles on the overgrown rock benches, it was quite romantic, with the sunset pouring in through the broken windows…” I knew the kind, they became more and more common as religion came and fell out of fashion.

“We talked for a while before things became more and more steamy as I drank more. Usually I didn’t drink that much but one thing led to another and I didn’t have the balls to –“I never quite understood the modern phrases but I understood what she was trying to say even before her embarrassment got the better of her.

“Yeah, um… Yeah. But as we were just getting started he started doing things he didn’t usually, like holding me still. Now usually that’s be fine, weird, but fine but this was harder than usual, I literally couldn’t move when he started holding me by my arms and legs so I told him. But he just ignored me so I started thrashing around which annoyed him I think because he let go of my arm for a minute and smacked me.” I furrowed my brows, he hit a woman? A mortal one at that, this one really didn’t have any manners at all.

“He hit me so hard I blanked out for a couple of seconds and when I realized what was happening he had just managed to bite me.” Her hand mindlessly trailed up to the faint scar at the edge of the collar bone, one of the usual places when biting someone.

“I think I blanked out a couple of times but when I came to I was underneath a white sheet at the morgue with burned clothes, or whatever was left of them…. I-eh- The first thing I did was grab the morgue technician and b-erm, feed from him, I think he survived anyways….”  I sighed a bit louder that time, of course, there was only one way for this story to end. Replacing my empty cup on the stand I crossed my legs as I thought this information through.

“You needn’t worry about the technician, I have quite a few officers around to inform me of cases of misconduct of Vampires and there hadn’t been reports of any cases for a while, ergo he should be fine if confused. As for your Sire, the information I can share is probably going to be unfortunate at best.”  The little lady actually looked relieved when I reassured her about the human which was a common thing really, Vampires tend to get attached to the first human they feed off since it seals their own existence so to speak.

“I don’t care, I just want to talk to him, ask him why he did this to me…” with that Simone entered the room after a brief knock, looking genuinely excited at the thought of a guest.

“I’m sorry to interrupt but Adam just told me you had a guest and I was curious…” Of course, Adam would never let up an opportunity to share some new information with the ever-curious Simone, it sometimes amazes me that they haven’t become a pair yet though they have spent over a 100 years in each other’s company.

“Please…” I showed her to an empty seat beside the desk that she sat on, resting her arms on the back, sitting the wrong way round.

“Miss Scarlett, I would like you to meet my youngest, Simone” the two regarded each other in silence with a smile, it was Simone who spoke up first, running a hand through her short brown hair.
