Dear Stereotypes,

People of our society think that every race talks different. Which is true, but it's also not. Let me explain;

People stereotype ALL white people to talk country. But when they find one that does talk country, but instead uses ghetto slang. Then people say this crap, "Oh, she/he is trying to act black."

WHAT??

How do you "act black"?

I get that some people of my color act ignorant and ghetto at times. But other races have there fair share of ignorant people. But since this is America, people don't see it that way.

Let me put it like this;

In the eyes of a none-stereotype person:

When a black girl/boy talks with proper pronunciations.

"You speak very nicely." Said girl A

"Why thank you." Said black boy/girl C

In the eyes of a stereotype person:

When a black girl/boy talks with proper pronunciations.

"Wow you talk like white girl/boy."

"I talk like...what..?"
----

See the difference?

Now I made this because, for me it's crazy when people say things like that to me. I talk proper mostly, so when people compare my speech to being white, its kinda dumb.

What I automatically think when I hear that is:

I'm not talking white, I'm just not what stereotypes portray me to be. So shut up!

Now don't get me wrong, I use slang every now and again. But I don't use it ALL the time. Unfortunately people feel like I should "talk black" and "act black", all the time. Which is dumb, because no matter how I speak, I was still born black. So don't tell me what I am and what I talk like. Cause you don't know what you're talking about.

And I only got four words for people like that...

Get a life Stereotypes!

Sincerely, A. T. F.
