"i am from" imitation poem | finished

I am from books,

from the internet and the clicks of cameras.

I am from the blue-covered bed against my bedroom wall.

(Soft and comforting,

often spending nights curled up while reading.)

I am from Orlando

and Nashville,

places once seen briefly

that I hope to one day see again.

I am from Deering and endless dirt roads,

from a big family but only few close relatives.

I am from a stint in the Vietnam war

to the landscapers and lamp makers of today.

I am from almost-family,

from days spent at the beach, in New York, on Christmas,

from always calling them aunt and uncle although they are not.

I am from Scooby-Doo and Charlie Brown,

from "Unfortunate Events" and "Pretty Little Liars".

I'm from superheroes and "teen wolves",

from hours spent on youtube watching people I love.

I am from the best of friends who live the farthest away,

whom I hope to one day see face-to-face.

My room still holds the stuffed animals of my childhood,

a bag stuffed full that I cannot bear to get rid of.

My shelves also hold pictures, new memories of the present

that remind me to look to the future.

I am from all of this,

new and old,

the moments and memories that shape the person I am.

notes: this is an imitation of a poem called "I Am From" that I wrote for ap lang during junior year. it seemed like a proper start to this collection since it serves to describe me/my life.
