High school. Isn't it just a joy? All the bullies and people that judge you for appearances and your family. It's stupid if you think about it. They'd feel the same way if they were in my shoes and being tortured due to my lack of family. I can't complain too much, I still had it good compared to others. I at least had two people.
Oh, by the way, I'm Aria Mercury. In my life I have a whole three people. I've got my BFF Macey, my boyfriend Adam, and my guardian Laurie. Laurie was like a parent to me since mine were absent from my life. I don't blame them. I wasn't the most interesting person that ever walked the Earth.
"There you are! You never answered my text this morning and I sent that forever ago," Adam said from down the hall. Adam was every girl's dream guy: captain of the football team and straight up cute. Why he ever looked my way as a mystery I wasn't ready to solve.
"I was a bit busy. What did you need, Adam?" I questioned. Frankly, I wasn't about to reveal what I was actually doing this morning. To be honest, I was even sure what happened this morning. I was looking at my science homework and all of a sudden it caught fire in my hands. In my freaking hands! I couldn't believe it and neither would anyone else if I told them.
"Aria, are you okay? You've been acting kinda strange the last few days. If there's something wrong you can just tell me," Adam says as he lays a hand on my upper arm. Adam had always been really understanding. I moved here my freshman year after my parents disappeared and him and Macey were the only ones who didn't judge me for it.
Let me explain. I was middle school when one morning I woke up to no parents. That's when I met Laurie. She rushed me out and took me somewhere i had never been before. I stayed out of public schools for a couple years. My first year of high school, I decided to come to Marino Bay High School. Somehow, people knew about me on my first day. It was instantly a mess of me getting teased by all the populars and stared at by the losers. I fit in nowhere.
Things got better when I met Macey. Macey and Adam were really good friends and she had noticed that I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. Adam knew and never teased me for it. He simply treated me normally. It's been two years with him and I can say that without him I'd be crazy. Macey picks on me about him, but I don't mind. She means well.

I heard a loud crash and then a scream. A large man came walking around the hall corner carrying Annie Beckler in his huge hands. Jake Tyson ran up to the man, attempting to knock him down or at least make him drop the girl. He outstretched his other hand and a ball of purple knocked Jake back far behind the crowd of people, including me, that had gathered to see the scene. The giant man looked around and opened his mouth to say a name. A name that I wish I hadn't heard.
"Show yourself Aria Mercury."
