Another Day

I heard my alarm go off. I grunted as I looked at the time.

5:30 am.

I threw my legs over the side of the bed sitting up and running my fingers through my hair.

I looked over at my wife, Stephanie. She had the day off today. Unlike me I have to work today.

RIIING!!

Quickly as I can I grabbed the phone and turned it off.

I looked over at Stephanie to see her wake up.

"Sorry for waking you," I said getting up walking over toward the dresser.

"Don't worry about it, Jessy has to get up for school anyway," Stephanie grumbled sitting up.

"Her car still not fixed?" I asked looking over at her.

"No, her dumb boyfriend said he was gonna come by yesterday and fix it but he never did," Stephanie replied getting up walking towards me.

"Well if you want I can Jess to school on my way to work," I said wrapping my arms around her.

"You will do that for me?" Asked Stephanie smiling.

"Of course I will," I replied hugging her against me.

"I love you," she said softly.

"I love you too," I said back letting go.

As I left the room to wake up Jessy I can hear Stephanie getting back in bed. I got next to Jessy's door and knocked loudly.

"Wake up Jess!" I yelled through the door.

"Ugh, can't I just skip school for today?" Jessy asked from her room.

"Maybe another time," I replied laughing.

I went downstairs to start some coffee.

"Thank god it's Friday," said Jessy throwing her backpack on the couch entering the living room.

"Well your mom is picking you up after school today," I said pulling out my coffee cup.

" I was gonna have John take me he today," Jessy said walking into the kitchen.

"If John is even gonna come over he's gonna fix your car. He never did it yesterday," I said pouring coffee into my cup.

"And your mother and I already discussed this, she's gonna pick you up," I last said grabbing my car keys heading out the door.

The first person I see as we pull up up next to Jessy's school is John.

"Have a good day at school," I said to Jessy as she opened up the door to get out.

"I'll try not too," Jessy replied joking.

John ran over to help Jessy out of the car.

"How ya doin?" Asked John looking over at me.

"Ah, just another day, and hey where were you yesterday?" I quickly asked him.

"I got caught up in homework last night, if I can I'll come by later to fix Jessy's car," John replied closing the passenger door.

As I am pulling away my phone started to ring.

"Hello?" I asked answering the phone.

"Hey you on your way to work?" Asked my partner Tom.

"Yeah, I just dropped off Jessy at school, I'm on my way there," I replied turning onto the main road.

"Okay see you when you get here," said Tom before ending the call.

"Yo Tom what time is it?!" I yelled over the sound of his power drill.

Tom stopped his drill and pulled out his phone to check the time.

"It's 3:00, just a few more hours before we can go home," said Tom putting his phone away.

"Yeah, so you got any plans tonight?" I asked Tom looking through my tool box.

"Not really, Abby is still on a business trip," Tom replied sitting down.

"Well you should come over, Stephanie is making a pot roast tonight," I said pulling out a hammer.

When I was getting ready my phone went off.

"That the wife?" Asked Tom smirking.

I pulled out my phone to see who's calling me.

"Well speak of the devil," I said before answering the phone.

"Hey swee-," I started but was cut off.

"Dad! They got mom!" Yelled Jessy over the phone.

"Who's got mom?!" I asked quickly with my eyes wide open.

Tom quickly stood up.

"What's going on?" Asked Tom with a worried look on his face.

"These men, now their coming for me," Jessy said starting to cry.

"Okay baby stay on the phone with me. I'm coming to get you. Where are you?" I asked her running to my car.

"I'm in my room in the closet," she replied still crying.

"Okay I'm coming to get you," I said getting in the car.

Tom was pulling out his phone to call the police.

"Dad their in my room," Jessy said quietly.

I could hear her sobbing.

"Jessy everything is going to be okay," I said to her.

"AHHHH!" Jessy screamed.

"JESSY!" I yelled into the phone before the call ended...
