*Blushes in Nerd* (Alphys X Reader)

Chapter 1: Recovery from the Discovery

You broke your paralysis, stepping inside. The door shut behind you.

Alphys led you past her desk, which was as messy as always, to a shelf housing various DVDs and books.

"Undyne should be here soon." She said. "We'll decide what to watch then."

The two of you waited for a bit. The silence wasn't tense, but it was a little awkward.

After a while, Alphys' phone buzzed. She took it out of her pocket, answering it. "Hello?"

She listened for a moment. She smiled. "H-Hey Undyne." Another pause. Her smile slowly disappeared, leaving her looking disappointed. "Oh, okay..." She tensed slightly. "N-No, it's fine! Really! Y-You have to do what you have to do, right?" She smiled a bit more. "R-Really, it's fine. T-Talk to you later." She hung up, sighing. "U-Um, Undyne isn't coming..."

You gave her a concerned look, questioning the sudden change of plans.

"Something came up with the Royal Guard that she has to take care of." Alphys explained. "Sh-She said she probably wouldn't be able t-to make it today..."

Despite what she had said on the phone, Alphys seemed pretty disappointed Undyne wasn't coming. Before you could think twice, you embraced the reptilian monster. You couldn't stand seeing any of your friends sad, no matter what the reason.

Alphys winced slightly, surprised by the gesture. She blushed a little.

After a few moments, you backed away, noticing her blush. Perhaps that was a bit too much.

But she recovered quickly. "U-uhm, w-well, this means you can choose what we watch." She offered. "I-If you still want to stay, that is."

You smiled at her, reassuring her that you wanted to stay, even if it was just you and her.

She seemed happy to hear that.

You stepped closer to the shelf, examining the wide variety of anime DVDs. The collection was rather surprising, considering she could only collect whatever ended up in the dump. How long had she been collecting..?

You eventually found a title that stuck out to you. "Mew Mew Kissy Cutie." You remembered hearing Alphys talk about this on multiple occasions. You figured this choice would make Alphys happy, and you didn't really care all that much, so you chose it.

Alphys hardly managed to contain her excitement, grinning. "Okay! Mew Mew Kissy Cutie it is!" She accepted the DVD case and scuttled over to her desk. She opened the case and put the DVD in her computer.

"I-I could probably put it on the big monitor, if you would prefer that." She offered.

You shrugged. This was all to spend time with Alphys. You told her you didn't have a preference.

"You sure? This screen is kinda small..."

You nodded, standing next to her and looking at the screen with a calm smile.

She started the movie.

You two were quiet during a lot of the movie. Alphys would sometimes mumble a quote or comment quietly on who should do what, but you didn't mind. In fact, it was kinda cute, in a humorous way. She was so excited over a silly movie. At least she was enjoying herself. And you were enjoying yourself, too.

After the movie ended, you decided to head home. You thanked Alphys and told her you had fun, and that you would love to do it again sometime, maybe when Undyne was available.

Alphys nodded, smiling. "S-Sure! That sounds great!"

You smiled, turning and heading toward the door.

You were just about to exit when Alphys called after you.

"(y/n)?"

You looked back.

"Th-Thanks for coming." She said, a genuine smile on her face. It was abundantly clear that she genuinely appreciated your willingness to put the past behind you.

You gave her a warm grin, nodding and giving her a thumbs up. It felt kind of silly once you had actually done it, but Alphys' laugh made it worth it.

You walked out of the lab, making your out of Hotland.

Things were looking great. You were well on your way to restoring a genuine friendship with Alphys. The thought made you grin with happiness.

You hardly felt the choking heat of Hotland as you made your way home.

The thought of restoring your friendship fills you with determination.
