I'm always looking for places to explore, preferably abandoned, creepy places. After countless hours of internet searches, I found an insane asylum. The place closed down in the early 1900's because they built a bigger, better one not far from the original location. It wasn't patrolled and it was pretty far from any people. Perfect! I ran to Target to get bug spray, flashlights, snacks and water. I was all set.
I woke up bright and early the next morning to start the three-hour drive to my destination. The drive there was pretty boring, since I took mostly back roads to avoid the highway traffic. Once I was only a few miles from the asylum, I noticed I was being followed. I wasn't sure, but it seemed that way. I thought I should pull over in case they were following me to tell me something, I realize this was stupid but ya know. So I pull off the road and the car slows to a stop behind me. I got more and more nervous the longer they took. Finally, a tall man with white messy hair steps out and starts walking towards me. He looks at me with piercing black eyes – not exaggerating here – his eyes looked pure black. I tried to act like I didn't notice.
"You from around these parts?" He asks.
"No, I'm not. I'm just visiting for the day." I say with as much politeness as possible.
"Huh," he seemed perplexed," you ain't goin' up to that damn asylum are ya?" His tone changed, he seemed almost angry now.
"Yeah, I am actually," I confessed, "I was just gonna go take some pictures and then be on my way."
"Something evil lives in there, a buddy of mine went in and never saw the light of day again" With this, he hastily walked back to his car and sped off, slinging dirt and rocks behind him.
I ignored his warning, I know now that I should've listened but I didn't drive three hours for nothing!
The building was in a very remote part of the woods, so it took me awhile to find it. I finally pull up and find a place to park. The building looked very decrepit, obviously worn by age and the elements. The bricks were crumbling and it looked like the whole building might soon collapse. There were huge stone pillars supported a balcony on the second floor, which I found odd. All the windows were busted and the front doors seemed smashed to bits.
It was already getting dark, so I quickly sprayed myself down with bug spray and grabbed my flashlight. The closer I got to the entrance, the more I felt like I should just turn back and head home. I neglected this feeling and continued inside. The floor was wet, like it has flooded and it was very cold, even though it was ~90 degrees outside. I began looking around for something interesting to take pictures of. I found a lot of old files, some wheelchairs, desks, beds. Nothing too crazy. Until I got to what should've been the 3rd floor, for some reason the number 3 was missing from all the room numbers. For example, on the second floor, the rooms were numbered "200," "201", "202" etc. But on the third floor, it was just "00," "01." Even what would have been room 303, was just "0."
I found this insanely fascinating and couldn't come up with an explanation for why they were numbered like this. I decided to explore what would have been room 303, room "0." I started to hear footsteps running up and down the halls the second I stepped foot over the threshold and into the room. I thought maybe it was just someone else exploring too and when they heard me, they got scared. I started looking through the files, the bathroom, the drawers, everything in the room. Then came the screaming. This wasnt normal screaming, it was ear-piercing shrieks. They came from all around me, and wouldn't stop. I started to hear banging and whispers too. It was seriously like a scene from a horror movie. Suddenly, all the noises stopped at once, it was dead silent again. I turned to head out the door so I could get the hell out of there when I saw something I can only explain as a shadow man.
It was tall, I'm talking probably 8 feet. It was pitch black, even with my flashlight shining directly on it. I knew in my gut that this creature was sinister, so why did I follow it? I was horrified and wanted nothing more than to get in my car and drive like hell out of town. But my body wouldn't let me, I started following this thing down the long corridor and into a room that I hadn't noticed before.
Inside this room were... People... But they didn't behave like normal people do. For one, they were ghostly white, and abnormally skinny, bones exposed. They were also crawling around on their hands and feet, but upside down, with their stomachs pointing towards the ceiling. It wasn't until this time that I realized the shadow man was gone, or that none of these "people" had even noticed me. They seemed to be whispering something repeatedly, but it was too quiet for me to make out what it was. I tried leaning in just a tad bit more to hear them, but that's when I stepped on a piece of glass and alerted them of my presence.
Abruptly, they all snapped their heads in my direction and opened their mouths so inhumanly wide that it should've broken their jaws. They then let out that ear-piercing shriek I had heard earlier. I darted out of there as fast as I could, only looking back for a split second to see them all chasing after me, still on their hands and feet. I quickened my pace and once I was to the car, I sped the whole way home.
That night, I was haunted by nightmares of what I had seen and heard that day. I decided I would just stay up and watch a comedy on Netflix to calm my nerves. About 15 minutes into the movie, I got hungry and decided to go make myself some cereal. On the counter-top was a piece of yellowed paper with "Abyssus Abyssum invocat" written on it. I have no idea what language that is, or what it says but it thoroughly creeped me out, especially since I live alone and no one has a key to my house.
After that, things began picking up, at first I'd lose things and find them in a completely different spot than where I left them. Then I would hear whispers, or footsteps in the middle of the night. Lately, I've been waking up with scratches on various parts of my body, always in three's.
I don't know what's going on or what I brought home, but if anyone knows what I should do, I'd appreciate some advice.
