Rain splattered against the window, hitting the glass with a force so powerful I was sure that they would shatter. Thunder boomed and lightning flashed through the sky, illuminating the decrepit, leafless trees and casting eerie shadows across the rain soaked ground.
The lights flickered, casting the house into momentary darkness, black as the night. Praying that the storm wouldn't get any worse, I reactivated my computer's monitor, turned off by a sudden lack of power. If it did, I was screwed. Thunder crashed again and I swore I felt the house shake. This time, when the lights went out, they didn't turn on again.
"Great," I muttered under my breath, "Just great."
