“Okay, the ambulance will be here in 2 minutes. Just breathe, Tori. You’re going to be fine.” Brad was holding her hand tightly and Connor’s arm was around my shoulders, calming my uneasiness. I heard the sirens wailing and saw the paramedics running towards us. They lay Tori on a stretcher and asked Brad and me to come with her, the others following in a car behind. We ran to the ambulance, holding her hand. The sirens turned on and we sped down the motorway towards the hospital. We were rushed through to the maternity ward and then Tori was lain on a hospital bed. She had been given drugs in the ambulance while Brad and I gave her details to the paramedics. As everyone else came running into the hospital, one of the doctors asked me to leave the room, and I fell into Connor’s arms. He held me close and consoled me. I stayed in his arms for hours, until a doctor came out of the room and I stood up quickly.
“Is she okay? Has she had the baby yet?” I said immediately.
“She’s had the baby, it’s a little girl. Both mother and baby are fine. You can go in and see them now.” After saying these three sentences, he walked off and I ran inside the room enthusiastically, pulling Connor behind me. I saw Tori lying on the bed, looking shattered, with a tiny baby in her arms and Brad’s arms around her shoulders.
“Hi! You okay?” Brad said quietly, looking up at us. He looked happier than I had ever seen him, and Tori beamed at us, her eyes sparkling. I nodded and hugged them both, then looked at my niece. Her eyes were closed and she looked so peaceful, like a tiny angel.
“Does she have a name yet?” I heard James say behind me and Brad nodded.
“Maia.” Tori spoke softly so she didn’t wake her up. “Maia Lily Simpson-Jones.” (//AN: ‘Maia’ is pronounced like ‘Mia’ but it’s a different spelling!//) The name was perfect. She had tufts of brown curly hair like Brad’s, and she already had Tori’s eyes.
“That’s beautiful!” Ashleigh said and I smiled in agreement.
“Can I hold her?” I whispered to Tori, who nodded and handed Maia to me. She blinked a few times and smiled a tiny smile up at me. I smiled back and kissed her on the forehead lightly. I placed her in Brad’s arms and Connor took a photo of them on his phone. He went on Twitter and I saw him type ‘I’d just like to say huuuggee congratulations to @TheVampsBrad @ToriJones on the birth of Maia Lily! #HappyBirthDayMaia’ and he attached the photo. After a few minutes of everyone holding Maia, I realised no one had asked when she was coming home.
“Brad, when is Maia going to come home?” I asked.
“The doctor said that they would discharge Tori and Maia tomorrow morning.” He replied.
“We need to get the baby stuff! Shall we go now?” Harriet said, and after saying goodbye to Brad, Tori and Maia, we left to get the things they had ordered. After we collected the items, we went home and Tristan, James and Connor went to Brad and Tori’s room to put up the crib. Harriet, Ashleigh and I sat down in the TV room and all started talking over each other about Maia and the boys.
