I walked into the training room with great pride, but as I did I became more nervous. Will I even be good enough to go through with this job? Yes, I will. I made up my mind and kept walking, besides I can always find a new hobby.
I looked around to see people staring at me. Was my shaking noticeable? I decided to ignore it, but it was complicated with dozens of eyes on me.
I approached the door very hastily and found that my legs really were shaking. I reached my hand up and turned it into a fist to knock. I was inches away from hitting the door when something grabbed my arm.
"Aagghh!!" I didn't think twice before I screamed. I heard laughing somewhere behind me, and then, of course, my instincts kicked in. As a trying to be swordsman, I had a lot of training. I picked my knee up and slammed it hard against the object, and got my arm loose.
I heard a loud yell like someone getting hit. The laughing quickly stopped and I started to look around. Everyone looked at me in shock. I turned toward the yelling.
"Who are you?" I quickly asked the question in a harsh tone.
"Who am I, you have the nerve to show up here and don't even know who you're soon to be boss is?" The man looked like he was in his late thirties. He was muscular and pale (probably from where I hit him).
"What do you mean soon to be.....?" And then it hit me. I was getting the job. My face lit up in excitement. I looked back over to the man and my face fell as quickly as it was brightened. I had just attacked my boss....
"Oh my gosh, I didn't mean-!"
"It's quite all right, miss. What is your name anyway? A new trainee must have a name."
"Brittany. Brittany Michaels"
"Ah, Brittany Michaels, such a wonderful name for a wonderful new swordsman"
"Thank you. I'm really sorry about your arm. It's just that I've been training so long to get this job"
"I see," he said and I saw the peek of a grin. "I'm Alan Richards, but you can call me Mr. Richards, since I believe I'm your boss now."
"Thank you sir, but how did you know I was looking for the job?"
"I simply tested you to see if you were good or not. And it's not like many people come in here for no reason."
"So when can I start."
"Oh a quick one. You can start basic things now. Go talk to Chase over there, he should be able to give you the things you need," he pointed over his shoulder toward a blond, tall boy wearing an orange, sweaty tank top.
I started to walk over, but Mr. Richards stopped me and whispered in my ear,"By the way good move. Better than some of me older guys in here."
I smiled and quickly walked away. I noticed then that mostly everyone in here were guys. All except one girl who quickly wink her eye at me. I tried to hide my smile, but couldn't so bit down on my lip to make it seem natural. She knew what I was doing but I don't think no one else did.
I got closer to Chase and then someone yelled. "HEY LOOK AT THE NEWBIE!"
"MORE LIKE SOON TO BE OUTIE!" After that there was like a dozen of laughing men.
I quickly looked around and then back at that girl. She wasn't laughing. I turned to Chase again and he wasn't laughing either.
When I got to him he said,"Don't listen to them they got the same kind of talk when they were trainees'."
"It's also because I'm a girl isn't it?"
"Mostly, but they don't know you. So they don't really know what you're capable of."
"Who is that girl over there?" I motioned with my head toward that other girl in the corner.
"Oh her. That's Kristen Andrews. Not very skilled but could be classified in the weak category. Besides that, the only reason she's here is because her dad wants her to be and he's like a billionaire and all that." He looked at her in this weird way that I couldn't seem to think would be possible. He soon snapped out of it. "Oh and I'm Chase Lawrence your trainer, for now."
"For now?"
"Yeah, when you are trained and ready for tasks you get trained by another, higher up, trainer"
"Oh"
I looked around a bit more to get a glimpse of what I would be looking at almost everyday. In one corner there was a balance beam (I guess to help you gain balance while you're using a sword). In another corner there were weights, and swords all over the floor. I looked over at the door that I was just about to knock on 10 minutes ago.
"Hey, is that Mr. Richards's office over there?"
"What? Oh no that's the men's locker room. That's Mr. Richards's office." He pointed in a corner that I hadn't noticed yet. It was just a room with a plain, brown door.
"It's very ordinary."
"Yeah from the outside, but I've never been in it before, only the best of the best can go in there. You get really, really important tasks in there. Almost life threatening tasks. Only one person in this room, besides Mr. Richards, gets to go in there and that's Luke." He pointed toward a tall, muscular, brown haired boy still laughing from the statements, said earlier.
"Luke?"
"Yeah. Luke Williams. Number 1 in this place."
"I see." As I looked at him even more I began to have a horrible feeling about him, like he was my challenger in a race and I had to win the blue medal.
"So anyway, enough about Luke, over there are the girls' locker rooms and that's pretty much it for this place."
"So now on to training?"
"Yeah, let's see what you got girly." He smiled widely, and I complemented it with a tiny grin myself.
