I wasn't sure how many guys I'd ended up seeing from my squadron before I knocked out but it felt like the entire crew.

After I'd initially woken up, Harry stuck around till the doctor came to evaluate me. Unfortunately the verdict wasn't a great one. I did have neurological damage in my legs that had caused the paralysis and numbness I'd felt in my legs. No one could say how my progress would go once I started therapy and that was extremely hard for me to deal with.

My whole life I had been such an active person. I loved any physical activity that was thrown my way and my physical fitness was what had brought me to a Navy recruiters eye.

Of my self and three siblings, I was the one who started walking the earliest. My mom was shocked when she saw her ten month old son sale his first steps and shortly after start running around after his big sister. I loved moving from such a young age, I did anything I could to be moving around. So to think that my fate was undetermined and it was uncertain if I'd gain full access to my legs again, was heartbreaking.

I don't know if what happened to bring me to this point could've been prevented but the story was just one I wasn't ready to think fully about.

I awoke to the sound of typing on the computer next to my bed and saw Lauren standing there again. She came in about every hour and each time I was still stunned by how attractive she was. A girl like that usually didn't end up in a job like this. Even though she was a nurse, she was still in the Navy, all the people in this hospital, staff or patients were members; that's just the way it was in our infirmaries.

Lauren looked like the type of girl who would get cuffed by a rich, hot, business owner that made enough money to let her be a pretty little house wife, as stereotypical as it seemed. That's how she looked anyway. But every time she opened that mouth that hosted one of the most stunning smiles I'd seen in my life time, an array of beautifully intelligent words combined themselves to make me feel like a completely ignorant prick. She was smart, it was evident and it made me wonder why she wasn't a doctor instead. She seemed to know more about what was happening with me than the actual doctor did.

"Hey.." I spoke up after staring at her for a bit.

"Oh, hey, sorry did I wake you?"

"No, a man can only sleep so much," I chuckled lightly.

"Well a man who lost as much blood as you did has the right to sleep overtime," she smiled and chills ran up my back. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was.

"You have a really pretty smile you know," I had to mention.

"Thanks lieutenant," she blushed shyly, I was starting to adore that little blush.

"You know, you can just call me Zayn right?"

"They always want us to be formal till we get the okay, so thanks, Zayn."

There was something about hearing my name slip off her tongue that hit me in the core. It was a strange feeling and I wasn't sure why I felt it. The memory of Harry saying she was changing my player ways came to me but there was no way that was true, not so soon. I'd barely been up and interacting with her for a day.

"Can I take your vitals really quick?" She asked, I approved with a nod and she grabbed her stethoscope from around her neck, letting her shoulder length black hair sweep to one side.

She moved in closer to check my heart beat and a wave of nostalgia hit me when I smelled the perfume she wore. It took me back to a moment that happened years ago.

"Are you sure about this son?" My father asked me as I we stood outside the terminal where the plane that would take me to my naval base was parked.
