dating Damon

Catherine

I've been knocking at his apartment door for about five minutes now.

Although he keeps insisting that I just let myself in, the accident the other made me not want to let myself in.

Our part of the street experienced a temporary blackout the other day, and foolish innocent that I was, went to his place to ask for some candles. Now I regret not keeping any when he told me to.

'You can never have enough candles,' he said.

So when I did let myself in, trying to hold onto the furniture that my hands could reach, I found myself touching something else.

...

I touched Mr. Fluffy, Ellie's emo cat. Or considering the nature of most cats. He's just a normal cat. Just like me.

Damon's been coming home late and it wasn't because of lost souls. When I asked him about it, he mentioned Val giving him clients that were too important to refuse. Sometimes I feel like Val still has a little grudge left because I chose Damon over him. And it definitely wasn't his heart that was wounded.

Damon and I are still all too new with this dating thing and most of the time, more awkward than romantic.

It's past eleven o'clock now and with the spare key he gave me, I guess I have a pass to look for his candles.

The candles.

I just need candles and I'm out of here.

The curtain at one of the windows on the living room was parted, giving a little moonlight to his place. It was enough so I decided to turn off my phone's flashlight. I was too afraid to turn it back on now. Who knows what the light might hit when I turn it on. I've watched enough horror movies to know what not to do during a blackout.

Looking around, I smiled when I saw the books I've been lending him resting on his coffee table. He seemed to like John Irving's works lately.

My back stiffened when I heard some splashing sounds. The moon was out and there was no forecast of rain for the whole day.

Slowly, I made my way towards the window and looked down.

And there he was. Not naked but almost. I'm guessing he just got back from The Garage. It's only been fifteen minutes since the power went off, the way up the stairs may have been too dark.

Clearing my throat, I slowly raised my phone and clicked on the camera's icon.

We're dating. This is fine. This is normal. Just...one....

click

By the sound of the shutter, I almost dropped my phone.

It wasn't the sound that made me panic and what made Damon turn his body towards the window.

He looked tense all of a sudden and I could almost see his eyes glaring directed towards where I stood.

The flash was on. The frick fracking flash was on.

I was lucky to even hide before he could see me. Besides it was still dark. He could'nt have possibly seen me.

Crawling my way to the kitchen, I started rummaging through the drawers when I finaly found a candle. Getting up, I practically ran to the door.

Maybe he could blame the nasties.  Perverted nasties.

You're a perverted nasty, Catherine! Shame on you, taking advantage of your boyfriend like that.

I breathed out a sigh of relief when I touched the doorknob. I was so convinced, and was grinning like an idiot when I twisted the knob and opened the door.

"Well hello there," he said. He had an annoying grin plastered on his face, a hand resting on the door's frame.

He was blocking my way.

"You have a bathroom," I said, "Why were you using the garden hose?"

He rolled his shoulders and slowly leaned towards me. An inch closer and I'll hit him with the candle.

"It feels so stuffy when I shower in the bathroom," he replied. "Besides, it's too dark. I don't want to injure myself just to clean myself."

I laughed a little. "That sounds so wrong. Besides isn't it..." My eyes wandered lower but quickly diverted them back to his eyes. "cold outside."

He shrugged and I took the chance to get out of the apartment. Gulping, I waved a hand at him.

"I needed a candle."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Well if you need a candle, don't hesitate to ask me."

I nodded and went as quickly back to base. The man was a fan of Lady Gaga so him singing paparazzi was to be expected.

Once I lit the candle, I sat down and looked outside my window.

It was definitely cold outside.
