It had been a few days since the Kalos league had ended, and it was time for Ash to head back to Pallet. Clemont and Bonnie had gone back already, leaving Ash and Serena alone. She had insisted on taking himnto the airport. Ash knew he should've been happy, he would get to see his mom again, but for some reason he felt sad.
'What is wrong with me', Ash thought. 'I should be happy'. Suddenly, someone pulled him out of his thoughts. "Ash, are you alright? " Serena asked, tapping him on the shoulder, all the while putting on a smile. She knew she had to act tough for the boy who had helped her grow so much, the boy that she had fallen in love with. She knew this was her last chamce to tell him how she felt. It didn't matter now. It was all or nothing.
"Pikapi?" Pikachu added to Serena's question. Ash gave a small smile. "It's nothing. I'm fine". Serena, however, knew he was not fine. "Ash, you know you can always tell me what's wrong, right?" Ash looked up at her. He felt a tingling sensation in his gut. "It's nothing. I just feel a bit sad, that's all." "Why so?" "It's just that after everything we've been through, I don't want to leave. I wish we could just stay like this." The trainer said barely audibly. He closed his eyes, not wanting Serena to see him cry. Suddenly, he felt warmth against him.
Serena was hugging him, her face inventing new shades of red. Ash hugged back, wanting to just melt into the hug, to stay right there, just like that forever. The tingling feeling started again. It was driving him crazy. 'Surely I don't have like her like that right? She's just a friend. I would hate for my feelings to ruin our friendship. I totally don't think about her beautiful hair, her ocean blue eyes, the way her smile brightens up my day, or about her kind, caring, sweet, and charming attitude-wait! What am I thinking?'
While Ash was daydreaming about a certain blonde, she was working up the courage to tell him how she felt.
'It's all or nothing, Serena, tell him. Just say The three words. I. Love. You. Why are they so hard to say? Alright. Here goes.'
"Ash?" "Yeah?" "I have something I've been wanting to tell you." "You can tell me anything, Serena."
She could literally fell the heat crawling up her cheek. Ash was breathing right there. She could feel herself go red again.
"Ash, I-I I love you." Serena whispered. "Ever since we were kids at that summer camp, ever since you helped me, I've fallen for you. I love you. I can't deny that. Our journey just made my feelings grow. I can understand if you don't feel the same. You might even be disgusted by me now. I just want you to know that I lo-" she was cut short when Ash pressed his lips to hers.
"I love you too Serena." And that was all she needed to hear. She ended up going to Kanto and moving to Pallet, with Grace's permission of course. "Oh and Serena, don't do anything you're not adult enough to do yet while you're there.", her mom had said with a wink.
I guess you know the rest. They lived happily ever after.
