The blistering afternoon sunlight beats down in the middle of a vast, dry desert where an intense battle rages on. Clashing of metal and the screams of injured soldiers were heard through the land. In the midst of this incredible fight, a monster and a human begin to engage in close combat. The monster was a skeleton, clad in heavy metal armor and armed with a large double edged sword. He was confronted by the human while he was running to a safe zone where his superior was so they could call for backup. He attacked the human with what strength and dexterity he could in the smoldering heat. The man ran toward him with clarity but he quickly evaded his blade, his opponents back was open. Without as much as a second thought, the monster stabbed his sword through the human's abdomen; causing him to crash down onto the dusty earth.

The skeleton stood over his fallen enemy, he wasn't screaming or yelling out in pain. Instead the man was shaking and crying as his blood spilled out across the ground. The monster sheathed his sword and continued running back to his base.

In a desert cave, not so far away from the site of the conflict, a small group of monsters gathered around. At the front of all of the different recruits was another skeleton and a man made of fire. Both attired in the same metal armor, they spoke to the young defenders with hope and ambition. The fire elemental was the first of the two to see him enter.

"Edmund! Finally, we thought we lost you out there!"

The skeleton laughed heartily at that remark, "Trust me Tinder, You couldn't kill me even if you wanted to." He walked up to where the elemental was and patted him on the back. "What's the plan?"

"Right now, just getting the backup that we need." the second skeleton said to him in response. "Anything we can get. We're becoming dangerously outnumbered out there."

"Right, as I could see, Gaster..." Edmund said back to him sarcastically.

"We're waiting to radio the request now. We just need authorization."

"Well, why aren't we getting any?" He asked a bit worried by the lack of action being taken by his colleagues.

"Everyone's communication has been acting up. It's hard to get hold of anyone in the god forsaken desert." Tinder said back to him.

"Well the sooner we get help, the sooner this entire thing can be long over with! Try again Grillby please!" Edmund pleaded with him.

Grillby nodded in response, "Alright alright..." From a pack that was set beside him the fire elemental pulled out a large clunky radio turning it on quickly "Hello hello! This is Lieutenant Colonel Tinder requesting help be sent to our location! We're running low on men and supplies and need both sent ASAP!"

The entire cave became quiet as static was heard on the other side before a gruff voice came through the radio. "This is home base ordering all of you to surrender to the humans. The war is over. We're to gather up our families and head to Mount Ebbot to move underground."

Gaster's eyes widened and he grabbed the radio from Grillby almost shouting into it, "But sir! We are almost victorious! We only need a few more men to finish this!"

The static noise began again for a moment before it screeched to life once more, "The king has already made his decision. You're to stand down and head home to gather up your families. That's an order! Do it now!"

All the light in the cave dimmed as Grillby's flames did along with a few other flame elemented monsters. Everyone went silent, all the hope and faith they had: shattered in an instant.

Several days later, Edmund, Grillby and Gaster would be walking with their families up toward the peak of Mount Ebbot. All three dressed in their military camouflage, their names printed on the front of their jackets. Gaster and Grillby didn't have any additional family except for each other at the time. As for Edmund, he was accompanied by his wife, Lily and his three children. A young teen skeleton girl named Bell, a water elemental little girl named Kristen, and a small infant skeleton boy named Tempus. Bell clung to her father's side scared as they walked. Lily held onto both Kristen and Tempus, the path all the monsters took was lined with humans armed to the teeth with different weapons.
