Chapter 1 (Duke's Wonderous Adventure's)

Chapter 1

It was a dark and stormy night, Sarah was cleaning around the house when she heard a loud crackle of thunder and lightning. Sarah noticed how strong the wind was blowing so she told her little brother Duke to bring the trash cans in so they don't fly away. When Duke went outside he saw a bright flash and out of nowhere a small girl appeared. Duke was scared, but he wanted to help her. So he slowly walked up to the young girl and asked her for her name. "My name is Ivy." Little did Duke know is that little Ivy had a BIG secret. "You're shivering," said Duke, "Let's go inside so you can dry off and get some food." When they got inside the house, Duke got an apple and gave it to Ivy, she took it in her small hands and ate it slowly enjoying the taste. Sarah then let Ivy take a bath and told Duke to get his sleeping bag from the closet.

Duke went to go get a sleeping bag from the closet, but when he came back Ivy was gone. Duke wondered where she went and started to look for her, but couldn't find her anywhere. It was then midnight when he decided to go to bed. The next morning he got up and ate some breakfast. After eating breakfast he went to clean up and get ready for school. While getting ready for school he started to think about Ivy and wondering where she ran off to. Duke got his backpack and his books and headed off to school. During his 3rd period class in study hall it was so silent he could hear a pin drop until he heard a voice saying "Come to the woods after school" it sounded like a girl voice to him but he wasn't sure. He went through the whole day wondering who or what the voice was.

Once the last bell rang after school it was know summer break, Duke's buddies came over to him to ask him if he wanted to hang out. Duke lied to them saying he was busy. Duke meet up with Sarah and told her that he is going to the woods for a little bit, "Alright, but be back before dinner." Sarah said, he nodded and said "Alright." Duke left his backpack in the bushes near the school, and headed off toward the woods. Once Duke got to the woods he started to look around. After walking around for awhile he decided to give up. When he turned around to leave, but heard the same voice from Study Hall whisper, "Wait, don't go".

Duke freaked out and started to run really fast quickly grabbing his backpack and headed home. Then, he saw her........Ivy. Duke was shocked, "Where did you go, what happened to you."Ivy closed her eyes and quietly said, "I went home." Ivy walked up to Duke but he backed away. She looked up at him with bright green eyes. "How did you do that thing," said Duke. In Duke's mind, "You mean whisper inside your head?" she paused, "With magic." "Magic?!?" shouted Duke. Closing her eyes again she said "I have to tell you a secret" Duke was confused and looked at her and that's when she said "I'm a witch". Duke opened his eyes wide and started running toward the school and picked up his backpack and headed home to hide. Once he got halfway to his house Ivy appeared in front of him out of nowhere. Duke was stunned and started to scream very loudly.

Ivy quickly covered his mouth and whispered "Please, stop screaming," then slowly uncovered his mouth "I can explain." "Explain what!" shouted Duke "You're a witch." "I was going to tell you the first day I met you." said Ivy. Duke confused said "Me.........why?" Ivy with a sad look on her face whispered "My home is in danger, and you're the only one can help us." Duke, with a surprised look on his face said "Us, there are others like you?" Ivy took his wrist and guided him to a very large tree which was just a couple houses down from his, then she said a sentence that Duke couldn't understand. After Ivy finished a door opened in the tree shining a blinding light. Duke dropped his backpack in some bushes and slowly started to walk into the tree and then it closed behind him, he seen a lot of other girls there using magic. "This is where you're from." Duke said with a smile on his face, "Yes, it's not much, but it's home." said Ivy. Duke looking at Ivy and said "It's amazing." The other girls saw that Ivy was home and greeted her with open arms. "Girls this is Duke," announced Ivy "He's going to help save our home." The witches cheered for joy and talked to Duke in a language he did not understand.

Duke didn't understand what they were saying because they were speaking in their normal language which, was elvish or dwarvish. Not all the girls were witches, there were also elves and dwarfs. Some were human also but, didn't speak English. The girls noticed that he wasn't understanding them so they brought Jatoya, one of the few people who can speak English. "Hello Duke, welcome to our home" greeted Jatoya "would you like a tour of the village?" nodding his head "I think that would be great." As they were walking around the village Duke couldn't seem to take his eyes off anything, he was really amazed. There were old chandeliers, books, even old armor and fossils of ancient animals. Duke stumbled upon a floating book and Jatoya stopped and turned around and asked Duke "What do you think?" Duke with a big smile said "This place truly is amazing, how come no one knows about this." "Only magical people live here, that's why they don't speak English." said Jatoya. "What about you, you speak English, were you not born here?" asked Duke. "No," said Jatoya softly "I was born in the real world like you." "How did you end up here" asked Duke. "Both my parents died when I was little, I was all alone for a year. But, then one of the girls found me and brought me here" explained Jatoya. Duke with a soft smile "That's sad but also sweet." "I'm not the only one" said Jatoya "there are a few other girls who are also born in the human world." Jatoya and Duke were still walking around when Alexa jumped out of a tree surprising the two.

"Hey guys!!" shouted Alexa. "Hey Alexa," said Jatoya "Duke this is Alexa she's a human, like me and you." "Hi Alexa." said Duke, "Hi, are you really going to help save our home." asked Alexa. Duke nodded "I'll try my best to." Alexa smiled and said "Wait right here." Alexa ran off when she returned she had a cookie. "Here, this cookie will give you strength and intelligence." Once he ate it Jatoya said "Come on Duke, there's someone you need to meet." Jatoya and Duke walked to a very large tree, "Wow, this place is so cool." said the amazed Duke. "Thank you Duke." said a man who came through the a door from upstairs. Jatoya bowed and told Duke "This is Mr. Trudel, the wisest warlock in the village." said Jatoya. "Thank you Jatoya." said Mr. Trudel. "Duke, I teach all the witches, dwarves and elves how to use and control their powers." said Mr. Trudel. Duke nodded in a alright.

Mr.Trudel asked Duke to stay for a while so Duke nodded in agreement still confused about what was going on. They ate some dinner, and after they ate Mr.Trudel asked for him to come to his office. They headed off toward his office and Duke noticed a small dragon like creature but wasn't for sure if it was a real dragon so he went to pet the dragon as it shifted its head making Duke jump. The dragon spoke "please don't." Duke's eyes widened as Mr. Trudel chuckled and softly said "he won't hurt you he just doesn't like company that's all." Then once they got to his office Mr.Trudel asked where he came from. So Duke told him about his family and his sister, as Mr.Trudel listened he asked the boy whether he would like to be a warlock like himself. Duke looked at him with a confused face. Mr. Trudel said "only magical beings can get in this village if you weren't magical you wouldn't of been able to get in." So Mr.Trudel explained what a warlock was and everything they can do. Duke thought about it over the night while he stayed at the tree and decided he would want to be a warlock.
