I look to the sun
That shines before me
So happy and bright
And blinding to see
It looks just so happy
Sitting up there
Like a gem in the sky
Who is kind and fair
But then looking at me
I don't stand out at all
I just stand there ceaselessly
Trying to look tall
I'm not as bright
Or as happy as he
But I am myself
And I'm happy being me
Sure I'm not as pretty
And sure I don't stand out
But people still look
Whenever I'm about
They like to look at my craters
And the man in my face
I drew all attention
In a national race
I was studied and drawn
And wrote about and sung
About how I glowed in the twilight
Which made it sound fun
But I still will never be
The one gem in the sky
No matter how long
Or hard I might try
I will never shine as beautifully
I will never give so much life
But I will see the happiness
In the face that never has strife
For in my life
Have I never met
Such a beautiful thing
As the sun when I set
It shines just bright enough
For all eyes to admire the beauty
That I'm lucky enough
To be able to see
But the sun always seems troubled
For whatever reason
It could be me
And my jealous feelings
My jealous feelings
About how he shines so bright
And how he is there in the day
While I am stuck in the night
But I can never be there
Lighting up the sky
I can only hang in the dark
Where I won't attract an eye
But I am happy being me
For I am like no one else
And I am special
For being myself
