A buzzing, loud and irritating sound came from the speakers of his phone, as he rolled over out of his uncomfortable mattress onto the floor. The house that he had lived in for many years now, was dull looking. It matched the gloomy patterns and designs that every other house had. The light came through the blinds, creating a glowing shadow on the wall of his room. The houses were always painted the same colours grey, black and tiny hint of white. Mitch however never cared as much as some people did.
The rays were coming from the window. He jumped towards the window blinds and closed it completely, Mitch didn't know why he jumped and felt unsure and concerned about it. He walked around the window and grabbed his clothes, a black coloured suit and put it on as he usually did in the morning. Once he did that, he paused and felt an unseen fire burning through his flesh.
He screamed in pain and knelt down onto the ground. He knew it had returned. He waited on the ground for several long and painful minutes before he started to stand again. He walked slowly towards the bedroom door. He placed his hands onto the door and opened it. The door creaked as it opened.
Mitch carried on walking towards his kitchen that was a mess ever since his friends had moved. To where? Mitch did not know, but always thought about looking for them. He got to the fridge and opened it, for the briefest moment he could see nothing, only something burning slowly inside him. The sparks of fire, the cracking sound of flame, the gut and lungs and his whole body burning up inside like he was a log at a camp fire. He closed the fridge, and forgot what he was doing. All he could picture was himself slowly burning alive.
He decided after that he couldn't handle the fridge today, he would have to get something on the way to work. Mitch walked out of the kitchen down to a board with keys on them, he grabbed his car keys and wandered out towards the front door. There was nothing going on outside considering it wasn't typically time to leave for work yet.
He pulled the front door open, stepped out and closed it again. He walked to his red car which was parked on a gravel driveway. The air outside was wintry even though the sun shone onto the road and the ground was filled with small man-made pockets of snow. Mitch put his hands onto the passive metal handle, but he didn't feel sick or anything. Nothing that he was aware of had set his hand ablaze. He opened the car door and put the key in to start the car. When he finally turned the engine on it hissed loudly at him and didn't sound like a normal functioning car, but then there was silence. It had given up.
Mitch sighed, knowing that he'd have to walk to work. Which was long past the mundane streets and block of houses that were the same design in every twist and turn that made up the suburbs of this city that they had dubbed 'New Brisbane'. But in actual fact they, the government department that he worked for on the lowest level, had just reconstructed the lower part of the city. His boss had done many things that created a distrust amongst the general populace that included Mitch.
Mitch had now gotten past the suburbs and to a city square with a statue of his boss dead centre in the middle. There was a small crowd of people whispering and holding up signs that had written on them "Stop this tyranny!"
Mitch never understood the outlandish claims that those hippy and conspiracy theorist made. One guy with brown long hair and tattoos all over, carried a megaphone. Mitch hadn't noticed it yet however there was an unfelt heat that burnt slowly through his bone.
It hadn't kicked in yet but there was an unfelt heat that burnt slowly through his bone with the flame that he couldn't bear. His arm swelled up under his suit as Mitch ran through the crowd.
"We want freedom! We want this tyranny to stop! We cannot stand for this anymore!" The brown haired guy yelled at Mitch who scrambled through their protest lines and picket lines. Once he was through, he hurried to the building lobby. He entered through the front door, two robotic suits stood studying the crowd. They waited for the orders from above.
"How are you today RB1 and NB1?" Mitch asked as he was walking past.
"Hello Mitchel Hanks. We're on guard. Move along please" RB1 commanded.
Mitch turned around while walking toward a sign indicating where the stairs were. "I already have RB1". He ran up the stairs toward a door with a red flashing light and labelled 'Mechxic'.
He entered through a door, the room was dark. In the darkness was a massive amount of robotic suits lined up along conveyer vents with small red lights that flashed.
Mitch walked down the hallway of the rooms
Mitch walked down the hall towards a giant computer monitor that sat idling, waiting to be used. Mitch typed in '4ebr2' and a loud sound rang through the room. The conveyer belt moved slowly and stretched out with a robotic suit with that was labelled '4ebr2-RT". Mitch went up to the suit and sighed and hung his head in resignation, thinking of his dreary home and knowing that inside him was something that was slowly but painfully tearing him up. He couldn't do anything about it. Mitch got into the suit and walked towards a massive door that was the size of a garage door, there were flashing red lights all around it with a caution sign faded on it warning of hazardous materials.
Mitch sighed and entered through the doors that would seal him in for good.
