Dear diary,
Things are going pretty awesome. I've settled into a groove. Well, you know what I mean. I'm getting used to serving a show and school on my plate.
Miles are I are getting along better then ever. He's been so nice to me lately, and we're working together better then we ever have. Heck, we're even drafting another song to add to the (hopefully) coming numbers.
As for the show, I feel like I'm making real progress. I'm gaining experience, and even if it's a small role, it's still educational and really, really fun. I can see myself doing something like this my whole life. Well, hopefully with some bigger in the future anyway.
xoxo,
Alya Kendrick
The school bell rings- the ten minute warning signal. I stuff my diary into my backpack and stood, slinging it over my shoulder.
"Hi Alya." A perky voice said. "How's the morning treating you?"
I turn and start walking beside Bianca Blackwell into the school. "Pretty good, Bianca. How about you?"
She flips a strand of long brown hair over her shoulder. "Wonderful. See you in class. Maybe you can actually top me on something." She winks and strolls ahead.
I roll my eyes and head toward my locker. Once upon a time, if you'd told me the Bianca Blackwell was going to this school, I would've fangirled into overtime. But now, I'm not really sure. What are we? Friends? Enemies? The safest term would probably be frenemies. She's helped me a little, but her main job seems to be criticizing me. I'd almost gotten used to it.
"Hey." Says a voice beside me. I turn, and my cheeks heated up.
Here stands the one complication. Miles Lennox stands next to me, his signature held smile fixated on his face. "Hey Miles." I greet him, shifting my backpack to my other shoulder.
"Walk you to class?" He questions, smile growing even bigger (as if that was somehow possible).
"Definitely. I mean please. I mean yes." I smile awkwardly. He chuckles deeply under his breath and starts walking. I trail beside him as he chats me up. He seems in a good mood today, and I'm greatful for that after the awkward display I just put on.
"Shoot them at me." I respond to him.
He grabs a leather back journal and tosses it to me. We had gone to the nearest Walmart over the weekend together, and picked out a song book. I'd let Miles take it over the weekend, because he'd said he had some ideas.
I scan the words he'd hastily written chorus.
A love that's higher than the stars above
Deeper than the ocean blue
All I need is you to change my life
Hope that's wider than the east to west Brighter than a morning view
All I need is you to make me right
All I need is you
I give all of me to you
"Pretty good, actually." I admit, handing it back.
He grins, stuffs it in his bag, and stifles a yawn. "Thanks."
"You okay there?" I arch an eyebrow at him, and he smiles sheepishly.
"Yeah." He says hastily. "Last night was just a rough sleeping night. I promise, it's nothing."
"If you say so." I respond as we trail into class. We sat down together as the bell rang.
"Hey guys." My teacher says to the class. "Today, we're starting a new duet project. Grab a partner, because you have three months to write a song, music, and professionally record it."
The whole classroom starts up with chatter, and Miles and I nod at each other.
Jax Gardener and Bianca are partners, but Jax raises his hand, looking confused. "Sir, when you say duet, you don't mean we both have to sing it and play instruments and stuff- right?"
"No Jax. You both are part of each process." My teacher corrects him. "That's why I gave you three months to do this project."
Half of the class rolls into collective groans, but Miles and I grin at each other. This'll be a breeze for us. No problem at all.
