Morning light sifted through cream curtains, dust fluttering around the dim motel room. Dean slowly awoke to find Sam already focusing on the screen of his laptop.

           "Already awake?"

"Yep. We have a potential case," Sam replied, eyes shifting to Dean.

"I couldn't sleep, so I dug around this morning. It's weird!"

Dean sat groggily on the saggy mattress rubbing his eyes.

"Yeah? Well, don't keep it to yourself there, Sammy. You know we just got off the vamp case yesterday. I say we go down and get some grits at that diner we saw down the road." Sam turned and raised his eyebrows.

"Look, I'm just saying we could have some fun this time," Sam replied, sipping his lukewarm coffee. Dean just sighed.

"So get this. A city in Missouri, a man on fire but with no burns. A super gorilla. A human bomb. All in the same area." Sam said with his hands whirling in the air, his eyes enthusiastic and a grin on his face.

Dean stood up and looked at Sam's screen with doubt.

          "On a blog?"

"Dean, this is big. I don't know what half of these monsters are, but what's interesting is that people don't know what's stopping them! It's posing as some vigilante! It's described as an intense yellow streak of lightning, but nothing fits the profile so far. And look, a few years ago there was a some sorta quantum accident there, which could explain this."

"So you're saying some meltdown could've created more monsters? God, I thought we could catch a break," Dean said, half laughing, half sighing.

"Have you tried Cas?" Dean asked.

"No. Cas isn't answering his phone."

"Typical. Well, if you can't figure out what the hell these creatures are, and Cas isn't answering his phone, then it's us against the world. Let's check it out," Dean continued, swigging his last night's beer.

           "I'm trusting you," Dean eyed.

Sam closed his laptop and stood up. "You won't be disappointed!"

An hour later, Dean slammed the door of the sleek black impala. As they exited the Platte Motel and left Springfield Nebraska, Sam and Dean both wondered what they were soon to face.
