"Thank god I got the window seat" i thought as I walked to my spot. I took my ipod from my bag and put on my headphones. I hated flying. scratch that I hated going anywhere. I always thought now that I finished high school I'd go to a nearby college in my town. it was a small beautiful city where almost everyone knew the other. If there was a death everyone mourned. if there was a wedding everyone celebrated. You would always feel like home.
Home. my mom and dad and siblings. I already missed them. I could feel my eyes stinging. I am pathetic. I dropped everything including my family in hope for a new beginning. Just because of a boy. A stupid jerk who after two years of being together stomped on my heart leaving it in a million pieces. I will never recover from this. I know I wouldn't.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the blonde girl sitting next to me. she clicked her fingers in front of my face pulling me from my thoughts.
Oh crap, please let her be quite. Please let her be quite.

"Hi. my name is Caroline". Shoot me dead now.
"Am so glad I got to sit with someone my age. what's your name. Have you ever been to new York City. is this your first time?".
Internally face palming myself , decided to tell her my name and assume she never asked anything else while I put back my headphones.

We soon took off and I stared blankly at the ground under me. I had to get out of that town. I had to start afresh and heal my pathetic ole hurting heart.
I have let myself down. I've let everyone down. Caleb mason. The reason for my misery. he's happy shagging up my best friend. Ex best friend. how can people be so deceitful. they've been sneaking behind my back for 7 months and I never got a whiff of it. was I so naive or stupid? Was something wrong with me? Is that why he cheated on me with Anna-ex best friend-david.

I was so lost in my thoughts that Caroline had to yank the headphones off and start a conversation. do I look friendly? No. No I don't.
I decided that since it's a 4 hour flight I might as well just get to know the perky girl seated right next to me.
By the time the we landed in new York, I basically knew almost everything about her. even her childhood pets and she almost cried when she told me that Patrick the parrot was missing for day until her dog pooped coloured feathers. is it true? I honestly don't know. Do I care? Absolutely no. Not even a bit.

We arrived in new York after the stated 4 hours and since I carried next to no luggage I was about to take a cab when I heard someone call my name.

"Aliya. wait. hold on". I turned back to see a breathless Caroline. her trolley was full of suitcases and one would have thought it belonged to a whole family.
"Hi. wait did you fly about two thousand miles with only that", she said gesturing at the small bag that hang from my side.
"Umm yes, I really didn't see the point of carrying everything " I replied tiredly. all I wanted was to go home and sleep. I was feeling really jetlagged.
"Well I was wondering if you would like to hang out some time. what about tomorrow."
I looked around trying to come up with an excuse.

"Oh come on its going to fun. I'll show you around the city if my brother let's me near his car. if not I'll come with a Friend. We can go shopping and stuff. please " she begged pouting like a baby.
"Okay. am down for it. Here's my number. let me know when you are coming over." I said writing My phone number down and handing her the paper. We said our goodbyes and left.

Having a friend in a new place is a good start. I thought to myself as I took a cab.

"Hello Alice , I greeted my aunt as she opened the front door.
Oh Aliya. how you've grown sweetheart. it's been almost two years since I saw you".
Alice is my mom's small sister, she was widowed about a year earlier and found outthat she was pregnant after the funeral. The irony of life.

"So your mom told me that you would be starting college here. it's good you made it out of that town. it's about time you expand your horizons" she said as she took off her apron. The aroma of chicken filled the house.

aah chicken. My favorite.

"Honey would you like something to eat or drink". she asked as she hugged me again. Alice was my favorite aunt. she was 25 and the definition of cool.
I was amazed when I heard about her wedding. she was young. probably 22 at the time.
I remember asking her why she was throwing away her life getting married so young and the reply never left me till today. "Aliya when a special person comes into your life. you wouldn'twant to spend a minute away from them. I guess when you know, you know'.

When you know, you know.

"No. I'll freshen up and come down for dinner." I said hugging her back.

Your room is the first one to the right when you go upstairs. I've cleaned it up and I really hope you find it home and make yourself comfortable honey".
"I will thanks" and with that I went upstairs.

I entered my room and it was quite big and had big windows with white lace curtains. it was airy and had a big cupboard and a dressing mirror. The bed was my favourite. It had a big hardwood frame and the mattress was wide and huge. I threw myself on it and almost bounced back. impressive.

I went to the bathroom. it was en-suite and almost as big as the room. maybe it was my favorite now. I quickly took a shower and wore some clothes and left my damp hair to air dry. apart from the one I was wearing, I had carried only two other pairs of clothes and I needed to go shopping real soon or I'd end up with nothing to wear.

New place, new people new surrounding. would this be the beginning I was hoping for? I wondered as I went downstairs

A/n. I know this is not the best but it will get better with time.
So what do you guys think. Let me know what you would like to happen
