Nandini felt an arm wrap around her waist and she whirled around

"Hey honey!"

"Oh! It's you!"

Nandini breathed a sigh of relief seeing her husband

"Yeah! Why? Were you expecting someone else?"

Nandini playfully hit his chest

"Who else could tease me like that Mr Khurana?"

"Point!"

Nandini giggled

"Weren't you supposed to be busy with the new film?"

"I was missing you. So I thought I would just drop it and come home."

"Awww you're so sweet!"

Nandini plopped down on the couch and dragged Abhay along. Abhay grinned and the next moment he pinned her down as he clasped her hands

"You're so hot. Uff damn the phone!"

Abhay cursed drawing out his phone from his pocket

"Hello?"

Nandini watched Abhay approaching the balcony while she pushed herself up and made her way to the kitchen. She opened the fridge and brought out a bowl of pasta. Humming her new chart topping ballad, she turned the microwave on putting the bowl in. As she waited for their dinner to be ready, she smiled to herself reminiscing how she penned down the song about her beloved husband. She loved making songs about love, about her husband. She brought out the heated food and set up the table. She wondered why Abhay still was on the phone. Usually it didn't take him long. She decided to check on him when Abhay arrived

"Wow, what do we have for dinner? Pasta! Hmmm I love it."

"Who was it? Any problem with new projects?"

Nandini asked casually but she couldn't help but notice that Abhay's brows creased at once

"Oh! No I mean yeah it was just Mr Chabra. He wanted me to check out his script."

Abhay's apprehensive smile worried Nandini. But she thought about giving him a bit space. If something was bothering him, he would open up to her when he was ready. She smiled as she hugged him

"Let's have dinner."

*********

"Honey, Shilpa said she wants to shoot a commercial in our studio."

"Shilpa? Oh! The owner of "Life Leaf"? That advertising agency is really something. I dropped by their office once and I was really amazed you know. I must say, she is running her business quite remarkably."

"Yup she is. Their creative director came to discuss the contract."

"I'll tell Alisha to check if the studio is free to shoot. Then we can let them know."

"Okay darling."

"Aren't you exhausted? Come here. I'll give you a head massage."

Abhay smiled meekly

"Yeah I would just have a shower."

"Ok."

Nandini leaned on the couch with her eyes set on her laptop's screen. Her fingers worked relentlessly on the keyboard as she typed an email to her manager. She looked up as she finished, her husband grabbed her attention as he came out of the washroom and straightaway hopped on the bed. Nandini knitted her brows being perceptibly crestfallen. She observed that her husband was absolutely paying no attention to her these days. But the reason behind his ignorance was obscure. Nevertheless, she opted not to dig into the matter unnecessarily. But she didn't realize that her turning a blind eye to the issue would cause such an appalling havoc.

She pecked Abhay's cheek before drifting off to sleep. Her slumber was hindered by a hushed voice. Her eyes fluttered open and for once she considered turning the bedside lamp on but then decided against it. She didn't budge a bit. It was Abhay's voice

"I told you not to call. Just message me ok? Don't you understand we can't risk it. If she gets the slightest clue it will all be ravaged. So just..."

Nandini could sense Abhay taking a cautious glance at her. The pause was short

"I'll call you later."

Nandini felt Abhay's sharp intake of breath as he laid back on the bed beside her. She couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. The puzzling colloquy reverberated in her mind throughout the night.

                                      *******

Grabbing her favorite mug from the cabinet, Nandini turned the coffee maker on. She needed a steaming espresso to treat her sore head. She became alert as she sensed footsteps advancing. Nandini squeezed her eyes shut as Abhay kissed her cheek

"Hey darling. Are you upset?"

"No. Just... a bit tired."

"Awww honey, take a break ok? Don't stress yourself too much."

Nandini gave a thin smile. She tried to read his expression. Nothing. What was he hiding? Was he cheating on her? No! He couldn't! But she couldn't shove off the gut feeling. The dilemma clouded her mind and she couldn't think of a way out of the frustration. An air of melancholy surrounded her. She rubbed her temples but that didn't help anyway. Nor did the espresso. She badly needed to open up to someone and she made up her mind.

********

Nandini parked her car in front of Golden Ring Studios. Unbuckling the seatbelt, she was going to step out of her car when her phone rang. She glanced at the screen

"Alisha, cancel the scheduled interview."

"But..."

"I can't Alisha. Just cancel it. I'll talk to you later. Bye."

Nandini put the phone back in her bag. As she entered the building, a silence followed as all eyes turned to her. A person sprinted through the crowd towards her

"Ma'am, what a pleasant surprise! Please come have a seat."

Nandini smiled as she glanced at the crew who had resumed their work

"No Shastri ji. I'm absolutely fine. I'm just here to see..."

"Abhay sir?"

"Abhay? What's he doing here? 'Deceit's shooting is postponed right? That's what he told me."

"Oh! Not for the film Ma'am. He said he came to meet Raj sir."

"Oh! Where is he now?"

"I'll go look for..."

"No no Shastri ji. It's ok. I'll take care of it."

Nandini wandered around the familiar place finally reaching the green room of a starlet. She was about to knock when she heard muffled voices. She took a step back involuntarily; dazed. A moan followed and then a voice

"Oh! Damn! This is so..."

Nandini gulped as she recognized the voice. Her fingers impulsively curled around the doorknob. Surprisingly, the door wasn't locked. Maybe the ones inside the room didn't notice. As the door opened, Nandini froze at the sight in front of her.

Oh! That's why!

How could she find solace opening up to her best friend when she was having fun with her very own husband under the sheets...
