This is the first of many chapters where I go back & fix my colossal fuck ups in the past. Today, we will be visiting my vault of "really bad old covers" as the folder is so conveniently named. You may remember some of these from the evolution chapter of my resources book.

First up, we have Ever After.

Everything about this makes me want to scream

Everything about this makes me want to scream. It's godawful. The blurriness, the incorrect size (this is something along the lines of 300x500??) that prevents me from doing a side by side comparison.. oh my. Don't even get me started on the outer glow. It was for my old Liam fanfic, the OC was a void kitsune (I have a terrible habit of writing villains, oopsie!) & honestly, it wasn't bad. I liked it. I don't know why I gave up on it.

Now, this isn't the worst I've ever made, but it's pretty damn close so I decided a remake was in order. Maybe I'll even revamp the book someday now that the cover won't be complete shit.

This obviously isn't as good as it could be, but the improvement makes it feel like it

This obviously isn't as good as it could be, but the improvement makes it feel like it. To me, anyway. I just recently got Topaz clean & am in the process of getting used to it, so the quality may be slightly off.

Now, onto the next atrocity.

I fucked this up so badly I didn't even finish it

I fucked this up so badly I didn't even finish it. This is the would-be worst cover ever, if not to the Virus monstrosity (see: evolution in resources). I was trying to follow a shatter tutorial, but as you can probably tell, it didn't go well. It was a train wreck. But, I redid it & the result is honestly one of my favourite covers I've ever made.

If the title placement looks familiar, the layout is inspired by a cover made by @LotteHolder - And The World Was Gone is the title, it's such a simple, beautiful cover

If the title placement looks familiar, the layout is inspired by a cover made by @LotteHolder - And The World Was Gone is the title, it's such a simple, beautiful cover. Simplistic covers are the one thing I simply cannot do (punpunpun), and although I did give it a shot, I ended up going with a manipulated approach. The title is from the song Cracks by The Freestylers featuring Belle Humble (I adore the remix by Flux Pavilion, I haven't heard the original). The only aspect I dislike about this cover is the bold font I chose along with the calligraphic one, I was rushing because I wanted to go make waffles :))

Now, last but not least, we have a remake of one of Unspoken's first manipulated covers.. which was this sad, sad creation.

I was so proud of this when I made it

I was so proud of this when I made it. I thought I was a graphic god. I believe it was inspired by the cover of one of my favourite books, The Dream Crashers — I can't remember the author's username off the top of my head, but the book is in my favourites reading list if you want to check it out!

But for realsies, I thought I was some Hollywood designer. All I did was find the texture on google, and add way too much outer/inner glow to the PNG. I cringe so hard at my younger self. Anyway..

This is my first shot at a cover like this & is slightly inspired some fanart I saw for the movie Split

This is my first shot at a cover like this & is slightly inspired some fanart I saw for the movie Split. I'm surprisingly happy with the turnout.

Lastly, I know y'all are probably going to be thinking "these new covers look nothing like the originals!" which I am very aware, but the originals were just so freaking horrible I couldn't make a decent cover look anything like them. So I revamped the style entirely & incorporated little aspects from the original (except on the last one lmao I completely changed that because I that light cover doesn't suit the book).

Let me know if you want me to do more remakes! I can do more similar remakes of my 2016 covers because I actually knew what PSDs & textures were then, whereas I had no idea when I made these (I know they include textures but I called them backgrounds & was convinced that's what they were).
