Chapter 7: The Memory

Everything seems dark and cramped but I reach out my hand and find my beloved brother's hand and holds him to me. I can hear my mother's heartbeat and I smile instinctively, feeling safe inside mama's womb. I wrap my arms around my brother and nuzzle his chest. We're to be born any day now and I can hear my mother singing a lullaby to us. She sings it every time we get to fussy and start kicking and elbowing. My brother kicks one foot and I hear my mother gasp.
"Charles, it's time." After that I don't listen. My brother and I are to preoccupied with escaping from our mama. He goes first and I can hear his cries and I cringe inwardly but it's to late and I'm being pulled out of my mother and into the bright light of a room. I scrunch my little face and open my mouth, letting out a piercing cry.
"They both have mighty pipes on them." I hear an unfamiliar voice say and I cry louder. I continue to cry as they wrap me in a pink blanket and don't stop until they set me in one of my mother's arms. The other one holds my brother and I reach out to him, needing to feel the familiar contact.

I gasp awake and look around disoriented. I reach out for my brother like I did in my dream and find a warm hand in mine. I turn to face my brother and smile at him as he smiles at me in relief.
"Rose, you're finally awake." He says, taking me into his arms.
"What do you mean finally?" I ask quietly as I bury my face into his chest, smelling the usual scents of forest and honey that always accompanies my brother.
"You've been out for two days." He replies simply and my eyes widen.
"Two days? Are you serious?"
"Yeah. One second,Ro." He picks up his phone and sends a text. Within seconds Will comes sailing into the room, looking relieved.
"Oh thank goodness. How are you feeling,Rose?" Will asks me as he approaches Levi and I.
"I've been better. What was that,Will?" He looks down, his silver eyes hooded.
"It was a vampire."
"A vampire?" I look up at him, my eyes wide. I bite my lip nervously but I believe him.
"Ro, it's okay." Levi holds me tighter when Will takes a seat next to us, his long legs spread before him.
"Yes, a vampire. Not all of us are bad." Will takes my other hand.
"U-us?" I sputter, "You're a vampire?" He nods seriously. "Levi, you know about this?"
"Yes,Ro. I've known about vampires and other creatures for a very long time." Levi admits and my eyes widen.
"Other creatures. Oh dear, I feel sick." I get up and run to the bathroom and wretch violently. Levi holds my hair back until I'm done.
"Are you ready now,Rosie?" I nod and get up, feeling shaky.
"They're are all sorts of creatures. Vampires, shifters,dæmons, (spelled it like that on purpose) angels, werewolves, nephilim, and so much more. Though the werewolves aren't some weird man beast thing, they just look like regular wolves but much bigger. The angels aren't all shiny and stuff, well only the Arch angels are. Nephilim are a mixture of angel and human. Not all the fallen angels are bad. Some of them were just at the wrong place at the wrong time." I start to feel dizzy.
"Levi, how do you know all this?" He looks down, his warm golden eyes worried.
"Oh, I almost forgot." He continues, ignoring my question,"Nephilim are very powerful, they can turn into any animal, they usually have wings but have to learn how to make them appear, and more. Then angels hardly show themselves but dæmons are all over the place. It's quite annoying--"
"Levi, how do you know?" I demand, interrupting him. 
"I'm a nephilim, Rosie." His words strike fear into my heart.
"How? You're my brother wouldn't I be nephilim as well?"
"You are,Rosie." He whispers and I jump out of his arms.
"No, no I'm not." I back up and run but I'm running faster then I've ever ran and soon I'm back in the forest. I collapse on the ground on my knees.
"I can't be." I whisper to myself, "I'm just a normal girl." All of the sudden, a sharp pain worms it's way in between my shoulder blades and I scream. The pain goes on for ages and by the time it stops I'm sobbing. My back feels heavy and I stand shakily and head back to the house. Will end out with Levi and they both smile and help me inside. Levi brings over a long mirror and I gasp. Sprouting from my back are giant wings. They have to be at least 6 feet long with beautiful black feathers. The tips are pitch black but it lightens to white as it reaches my down feathers.
"Oh my god." I whisper.
I have wings.
