Come celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Harlem High School
Come celebrate 75 years with us! Food and drink will be provided, and we will be hosting at our very own Harlem High gymnasium.
Date: November 25, 2015
Time: 6:00pm-11:00pm
All Harlem High graduates are invited.
I stared at the invitation that had just arrived in my mailbox today. Harlem High, I hadn't thought about going back to that school in such a long time. So I did the first thing I'd thought to do. I checked my calendar, and what I saw did not shock me. I was free. So I did the next thing I'd though to do. I called my best friend.
"Hey Laura, what's up."
"Rach, did you get the invitation to Harlem's reunion?"
"Yeah, just got it. You going?"
"Maybe, I'm not sure."
"Let's go! Come on!"
"I don't know. I don't have a reason to go let alone any urge to go."
"The reunion will be fun! We just get to hang around and mock people like we used to. Anyways, we are both in a good state right now. We both have jobs, I have a boyfriend and you are fairly successful. We got this covered. We'll be fine. Come on. I don't want to go if you won't even be there."
I hesitated biting my lip. "Okay, sure. I'll meet you at your place, and we can head over together."
"Sure."
I hung up the phone and took another look at the invitation.
Looking back on things, if I had my doctors appointment one day later or just had said no to Rachel, things would have been completely different.
I wouldn't be where I am now. I wouldn't have had to go through the complete and utter chaos that I did. Nothing would have changed, but that's not how it happened. I was available that day, November 25, 2015. I called my best friend and let her convince me into going even though I had no desire to make an appearance. I did all of those things.
And that was how it all started.
