Megan sat at her desk, her pencil scribbling across a math sheet in her own tiny, loopy writing. She grinned; she had finished, and therefore, had no homework. She looked back over her page, colors swirling together in a blur. Megan nodded to herself, and quietly went over to the turn-in box. She pushed her paper in - like she did every day. Every day was ordinary for her. Nothing changed. Ever.
Megan sat back down at her desk and pulled out a sheet of notebook paper, then a pencil. She started doodling, but just then the bell rang. Her head snapped up. Yes! She thought, grabbing her stuff, wishing the teacher a good afternoon, and dashing out into the 7th grade hallway of James Hampton Middle School. Megan rushed down the hallway, ignoring the sharp stabs of pencils and the dull banging of binders against her side. She turned into a classroom partially hidden by a row of lockers and greeted her favorite teacher, Mrs. Arden. Mrs. Arden smiled as Megan sat down in her regular seat in the front row. The other students in the class came in after Megan, though they weren't as excited as she was. A rare, special field trip - to the local history museum!

Megan sat on her own in the front seat behind the driver on the bus. She had tried making small talk with Mrs. Arden, but Mrs. Arden was busy grading. Megan had finally given up and opened her novel, The Lightning Thief. This was her fourth time reading this book, but Megan loved it so much she read it quite often. She liked how Rick Riordan had taken myths and legends and made them into adventurous, interesting fantasies. Annabeth, a smart, witty, sharp-tongued character in the book, was Megan's favorite. She loved how independent and smart she was, all the while ready to defend someone she cared for. Mrs. Arden stood up as the bus stopped at a light. "We're almost there," She said loudly, which quieted the others on the bus. "When we get off, I need you to find a buddy," Mrs. Arden announced. A few disgruntled murmurs passed through the bus, something about the buddy system was for babies, not 7th graders, Megan guessed. Mrs. Arden sat back down as the bus started rolling again, but she didn't let the class's attention wander. She turned around in her seat to address the class. "Stick together, don't go too far from the entrance, and don't touch the exhibits!"

Megan's class stood in the entry hall of the history museum. No one had chosen to be Megan's partner, as usual, so Mrs. Arden trusted Megan enough to let her go on her own or stay with her. Cypress, her friend, would've been glued to her side, but today Cypress was sick and couldn't make it. Mrs. Arden dismissed the class to go explore, and Megan went out on her own. Megan had let her feet wander where they please. First, she had gone and looked at the Ancient Egyptian exhibit, then the Renaissance exhibit, and finally she had wandered into the Greek exhibit. She looked around at all of the ancient art depicting gods, such as Poseidon and Hades. All myths, she thought to herself. Even though the Greek people were quite brilliant, they believed in such strange lore.
It was a little cold, she suddenly thought. Megan put on her fleece jacket and continued down the hallway. She kept seeing shadows, strange shadows, flit across exhibits, briefly covering windows, flying down the carpeted walkway. Panic started closing up Megan's throat as she slowed down and looked around. She was starting to wish she had stayed with Mrs. Arden. Megan turned around and looked back the way she came. She started heading back that way, scared and alone, but before she could go a foot farther, she felt a powerful rush of air behind her and a loud thud of something big. She froze, stiff as a board. A huge, winged shadow stretched out behind her. Megan didn't dare move. It screamed, a powerful, bone-chilling cry. And her world went black.

Hey everyone! Just finished updating it, it was pretty slow and boring. =T Heads up, I'll be working on the next chapter with week, and I hope to have it out by Saturday at the very latest. If you enjoyed, please comment, follow, and recommend to others! =D
Also, please excuse grammar edits. This is my first book, and I'm not that experienced. Thanks!
