Author's note: i don't have names for these characters, so she is the only female character referred to, and he is italicized. They are the main characters.
The blade went in. She saw it. She stopped. The blade came out. She saw it. She breathed.
And then she ran.
By the time that she got to him he'd already lost a lot of blood but that wasn't going to stop them from trying to finish him off. She wasn't going to let that happen.
"Hey, babe while I really appreciate the grand jester here, you need to get out of here." He said shakily.
She smiled a small pained smile, "Well, darling, I can't exactly leave you alone surrounded by a whole crowd of assholes now can I?" She moved his head into her lap feeling a twinge of guilt when he winced and then pressed both of her hands to the gaping hole in his chest.
His blood felt hot against her skin, she shuddered, but tried not to think about it. She had to focus on keeping him calm. Which didn't look like it was going to be easy.
"Well, well, well, looks like the princess came to the aid of the poor, poor, stable boy." The man with the blade words had poison in them.
She took a second and only a second to contemplate how you could hear poison in words, before turning her full attention back to the situation in front of her.
She looked at the blade covered in his blood before looking into the eyes of the man that was holding it. "Save you bazaar porno script for someone else. I'm not in the mood for your shit right now."
He laughed breathlessly.
Everyone stopped and looked at him.
"You got something to laugh at? Want something else?" The man with the blade charged.
Before she had even really registered what was going on she was speaking.
"STOP! Stop. I love him. I. Love. Him. I know that doesn't mean anything to you, but maybe it should. Maybe it should. Maybe you should think about what you are doing before you go stabbing people in the chest with blades that you don't even know how to use." Her voice broke. Tears where streaming down her face. "But, please for the love of God. Stop!" He voice got stronger. "If not for me, if not for him, then for yourselves." The courage that she had started the conversation with came rushing back. "Because I have friends on the way that don't take to kindly to people who stab other people."
As if on que the police force appeared at the top of the hill. The group of assholes bolted, the police hot on their tails. She smiled as she watched them run. It was in that moment that she heard him.
"Hey," his voice was soft, but it was still his with his light easy going inflection. "I think this is it for me babe."
"Shut up," She told him as she used one of her blood soaked hands to stroke back his sweat matted golden curls. "You are not going to die. Not today."
"Really? And how are you ensuring that? Sheer force of will?"
She heard the EMT's but they weren't to them yet.
"No," She lowered her head so that is was right next to his ear. "I know that you aren't going to die because that's not the world that we live in. We live in a world where magic exists. We fight the bad guys all the time. The badest of the bad. So, because of all of this you are not going to die because some normal idiot stuck you with a sword. That's not how it's supposed to happen. It would just be embarrassing." She lifted her head again to look at him.
He smiled, "kiss me."
She kissed him.
It was the EMT's that pulled them apart.
"I love you." He said as they pressed gaze to his wound and strapped him to a board.
"I love you." She said as she watched them carry him off.
"I love you." She said again to the air, once he was out of sight.
She stared at the hill that he had disappeared over for what seemed to her like a long time, but she knew probably wasn't, when a police officer asked if she wanted a ride to the hospital. She nodded in acceptance. The officer led her to the car and helped her in, and offered her words of encouragement the whole way to the hospital. She just let them bounce off her, she didn't really hear them.
She sat. She waited. They called. She saw him. She breathed.
And then she moved.
"There was a complication...
She could hear the doctors but she wasn't really listening. There was a tube down his throat breathing for him. Machines were keeping him alive. She went over and held his hand. She sat with him for a long time, before she couldn't anymore. She walked out of the room and slid to the floor right by the door. She didn't remember falling asleep.
"Miss? Miss? Are you alright." A husky voice asked. She didn't respond or open her eyes.
"Leave her be Charles, she's as good as she can be. That's her person in there." One of the nurses responded for her.
"Then why is she out here in the hall?" Charles asked.
"I think the waiting was getting to her she couldn't just sit in there anymore." The nurse said again.
"Well, she can't sleep here in the hall. Go make up the recliner." Charles told the nurse. The nurse scurried into the room. Just as she heard the nurses footsteps fade out she felt Charles lift her up. She was surprised to find that Charles was a big man, big enough to lift her with ease. Charles carried her into the room and placed her in the recliner, draping a blanket around her. She heard Charles and the nurse leave out and then she fell asleep again.
She woke up with her neck stiff. It took her a few moments to regain her senses. So it took her a full minute to realize that he was staring at her. She jolted and reached for him causing her to fall out of the recliner and onto the cold hospital floor, that she now couldn't remember why she found a decent place to sleep now.
"You okay?" She asked him from the floor.
"Are you?"
She laughed and jumped up. "That's debatable."
He scooted over wincing all the while and held out open his arm. She gladly snuggled up right next to him. They both sighed.
"I told you I wasn't going to die. You know you're very dramatic." He said after it'd been quite for a while.
She couldn't help it for what seemed like the eight millionth time in the past 24 hours. Tears rushed to her eyes, but she batted them away. There was no need to cry anymore.
"I love you, you know," He told her.
"I know."
"Wait you aren't going to say you love me too?" he said with all the energy he had to be mock offended.
She looked at him and rolled her eyes, "Kiss me."
He kissed her.
Author's note(again):I don't really know what I want to do with this. I was just toying with two characters in a situation. I may go back and give them a story, but for now they're just stuck in love.
