My name is doctor Harleen Quinzel. I'm from Brooklyn and as long as I could remember I've wanted to be a psychiatrist. I didn't have much going for me except for that. I've read so many books regarding it and the human brain fascinates me. There's just so many facets to it and I could go on for hours about how much I love it.
After finishing high school I went to a college and got my degree...graduated early. I worked so hard to get what I wanted. With no help from parents or any family members for that matter. I've only had a few jobs, as I was fresh out of college and didn't have any names under my belt. Gotham had some minor mental institutions but those were for minors and didn't hold much of a challenge for me. My goal was to work at Arkham Asylum. My dream had finally come true and I had an interview tomorrow.

*TIME SKIP TO NEXT MORNING*

I slept like shit last night. I was a bundle of nerves. I severely wanted this job....it has been my dream.

After getting ready I got in my car and turned on the pop station and they were talking about the infamous criminal "The Joker". My ears perked up instantly and I turned it up a little louder. "The mysterious 'Batman' has finally managed to catch and detain the infamous Joker. This information was just released to the public although he was caught a few weeks ago. He has been tried and guilty of a number of things that I'm sure you have heard about. They sentenced him to life in Arkham Asylum. Good day folks now back to your normal scheduled music!"
Music then started bumping from the stereos once again and I jumped, forgetting just how loud I had turned up the volume. I turned it down while thinking over the information I had just heard. The Joker was at Arkham. I honestly didn't know what to feel about that. I had heard of him before but never paid him any mind. Never seen him before either.

I hadn't realised just how into my thoughts I had been, until I noticed my surroundings were that of an ominous road leading to the one and only Arkham asylum. Once I was at the front gates, I talked to a security guard and they searched my car and asked for my name. After formalities were out of the way, they gestured me to a rundown looking parking lot to the side of the building. They told me to go through the side door and ring the buzzer and they should let me in. It sounded easy enough, but the many officers patrolling the perimeter with guns made my stomach turn a little.

I reached the door and they let me in. The inside was about as bad as the inside...paint peeling, dingy florescent lights. I cringed, knowing that if I got the job I would see this every day.

They led me to an office down a narrow hallway and I met with the owner of the place.
His name was George and he seemed nice enough.

"Hello Mrs. Quinzel, glad you decided to come and talk with us. I'm just going to ask you a few questions, is that okay?"

I smiled and said yes.

"What exactly makes you want to work here....I see that in your description youve targeted this place specificly to work for."

I gave this question a little thinking and said "Well sir, I've always loved the human brain and I guess I wanted a challenge when it comes to curing someone's mind. I honestly love helping people...that's my goal for here."
He smiled warmly at me. "Well this place could use some help, and you seem bubbly, we could really use that here. Butim afraid that we only have one patient available, who doesn't have a doctor yet and we're short on staff, and I will understand if you don't want to take him, but that's the only way to get a job."

I didn't even bat an eye when I asked who it was. I wanted a challenge....no, I needed a challenge. Something to take my mind off of the horrors of my past.
"Who is it? " I asked a little too eagerly.
He gave me a grim look and asked "Have you ever heard of the Joker?"
I tried to contain my shock....but how could I?? I mean I've heard if him yes...but to be treating him almost seemed like an honor....it was just the taboo of it I guess. After composing myself I accepted his offer.
He kept warning me and apologizing for my first real job being the worst of the worst. I brushed it off, telling him it was okay.
He gave me some background information about the place, telling me that they do shock therapy amongst other things I didn't want to think about. There were a total of 21 patients including the joker. Not many, but who would want so many crazies under one roof ?

I asked when I'd start and he said tomorrow. I was a little taken aback my this but was eager to tackle the task at hand.
After signing a waiver and a contract saying I wouldn't tell anyone about what the joker would tell me, I recieved his file and was left alone to pour over the notes while he went to go check on some things.

Going through his file, I realised that there wasn't much. No other doctors had any notes on him. He's never talked to them or he would laugh the whole session and not say any words except that he was going to kill them all.
I have to admit that scared me because all of his past doctors were six feet under.
I tried finding a picture but all I found was a joker card. 'How fitting' I thought to myself.

The door opened and George came back, saying that I could do the inctroductry meeting today with the Joker and he could show me my office.
I reluctantly agreed to this.
He led me to my office that was further down the narrow hallway than his.
While we were about to step into my future office, I heard a loud, disturbing laugh that sent chills down my spine. After the laugh came someone screaming death threats and gaurds yelling at the person to shutup or else they'd get some more shock therapy. The yelling continued and I heard doors open and shut and the sound of muted screams and shout in the distance.....and the laughing came again.
George opened the door to my office. It had a simple desk and a book shelf in the corner.. No windows.
George explained that the laughing and commotion was from the Joker. He apparently gets shock therapy at least 5 times a day with his attitude. After a few minutes of being in my office and George still apologizing profusely for pairing me with the Joker, a gaurd poked his head into the room and said that I could come see the Joker. I took a deep breath and followed him while George took his leave.

I was led through I few more hallways, and went through some more security checkpoints until we stopped at a metal door with small bars with a cover on the oppening. The gaurd gave a deep ominous chuckle and said I had no Idea what I was in for.
I just scowled and went through the door once it buzzed and clicked open.

The room was dimly lit until security put some more lights on. All that was in the room was a dingy cot and a metal table with 2 metal chairs in the middle and a sink and toilet in the corner.
On the bed was....the joker.
He wasn't what I expected. But I didn't know what to expect.
He was tall...lean...but muscular. A swimmers body. He looked strong, and I knew he could snap my neck with his pinky if he wanted to.
He had dark green hair that was short and had the word "Damaged" tattooed on his forehead along with a "j" on his cheek. He had no eyebrows...but he mastered it.
His lips seemed to be a deep shade of red....reminding me of blood, he had a gold grill on both rows of his teeth and his eyes.....well his eyes were as green as emeralds. And they were staring into my soul.
I was a little shook, not knowing how long I was staring at him. I finally snapped out of it when I heard him say,
"So they finally decided to give me someone pretty eh?"
I blushed and said "Uhm hello my name is doctor Harleen Quinzel and I'll be taking over your treatment."
He tsked and said "Harleen. I like that name...mix it up and you get Harley Quinn."
I wanted to roll my eyes at his joke...but I couldnt..coming from him it seemed funny.
"Yeah...I get that a lot I said. Its a terrible name and it's--"
I was cut off by him saying "Its a name that brings a smile to my face."
I didn't know how to react so I just said "Well that's good. Uhm well today was just an introduction...I'll be back tomorrow for an actual appointment with real questions."
He grinned that grin and didn't say anything until the gaurds were ushering me out. His last words were
"I look forward to it Harley...."
