Chapter 1:

Staring into the current intensly, Cadence studied the blue see-through water that was lapping at her face as she peddled her hands, moving her surfboard quickly, away from the huge wave that was coming closer, second by second. As it finally neared her, she jumped up onto her board, standing in striking surfer's position riding the wave as swiftly as she could. As the last moment came, she jumped off as soon as the wave ended, grabbing onto her board.

Wooho! That was the biggest one today. She looked from the water to the shore and saw a figure waving it's arms back and forth- Tristen. She heard his voice yell her name, calling her in. Oh, his shift must be over, she thought, as she grabbed her board and swam to shore.

As soon as she got to the surface she saw Tristen jog towards her, wearing a dazzling smile. "You sure did ride those waves, didn't you, Cade?" He laughed as he handed her a towel, still showcasing that smile. Cadence took it, smiling back at him, as she gave him a once-over.

Tristen had this black, messy hair and only seemed to smile around her and his other friends, but he helped a lot with lifeguard duty, and seemed to whisk anyone away with his light green eyes, but he really was like a big brother to her. He was 24 and she was 22 and he was around a lot, always peering over her shoulder in a mysterious way. She didn't really mind though, she liked having him as a friend. "I sure did," she laughed in the middle of her sentence"is it my turn now?" He nodded, watching her whipe herself off. She didn't notice. "Okay I'll go change if you could wait here until i'm done." "Of course." She smiled again and jogged off towards the lifeguard post, grabbing her bag and putting her surfboard against the post, then hurried off to the changing station with her bag and towel.

Getting into a stall, she changed out of her plain black bikini into her one-piece lifeguard swimsuit and cropped lifeguard hoodie. She walked out of the stall and looked into a nearby mirror. She started to put her hair in a ponytail, as she studied herself. Looking from her slightly curly Auburn hair, to her light silvery-blue eyes down to her slightly showing dimples and down her slim, but healthy, body shape and finally her silver-painted toenails. Her parents had always wanted her to be a model but she didn't like the idea of showcasing her looks like that, and since her parents moved to Alaska for dad's research about two years ago, she didn't have to worry about it. She scanned herself once more, grabbed her stuff and headed to the post for her shift, waving Tristen off, and she still had her next shift at Beans. Which she couldn't wait for.
