ENOUGH:
"Knock knock", he said. The venomous voice seethed through the door as if the deed that was to come had already happened. Even from her hiding place in the bathroom cabinet, Lisa could hear his cooing.
"Lisaaaa...open up for daddyyy..." He continued.
Daddy.
17 years ago, she would nonchalantly go around calling her once sound father by that name. Hugging and giving him all the love a ten year old could. Nevertheless, her mother did the same.
"Okay, time for daddy to come in", as those words left his mouth, Lisa's entire insides clenched, for she knew what was to come.
As fast as possible she jumped for the bathroom lock, but it was too late, the door flew open and he came in view.
"Hmm, sweetheart...why the sad face, daddy just wants to please you."
Please
What's so pleasing about incest she thought to herself, but dared not say a word, his temper flares quickly.
To busy in her thoughts, she didn't see as he reached down to yank her chin, causing them to make eye contact. The facial features so familiar, yet so unknown. His light hazel eyes resembled hers, full of hate, yet soft. His caramel skin she inherited, but curly hair that skipped her genes. One handsome man he was, she remembered when she was 4 and he came to her school for career day, all the little kindergarten girls had forbidden crushes on sheriff Heart, her dad.
"Lisa, introduce your father ", her teacher Mrs. Lexington instructed.
Little Lisa jumped from her seat with a bounce in her step.
"This is my daddy, Sheriff Lawrence Heart, funny because he has a big heart to keep all the bad guys away," she exclaimed.
Indeed he kept the bad guys away. Every bad guy but himself.
"ANSWER ME!"
Her eyes snapped as her vision skipped back to the present. He had her hair laced in his fist, and she hadn't realized it.
"LISA, WHERE'S THE MONEY," he repeated.
"What money," she croacked, her voice had still been hoarse from the previous night, memories that still send chills down her spine.
An evil smirk crawled upon his face.
"Well little Lisa, you know what that means don't you?"
And that's how every day went. He made up excuses to get her in bed. Always reminded her that she was in the wrong, but both Lisa and her father knew he hadn't given her money in a long time. Ever since 5th grade.
"Do you want to do this on the bed or floor, which is more comfortable?" He asked.
"The floor," she retorted.
"Naughty girl you are", and with that, he reached for her black skinny jeans.
Without second thought , Lisa's fingers tightened on the pocket knife behind her as she counted to three.
1....2...
"stab"
The cold blade pierced through the skin of the man once known as her father. Any normal teen tired of molestation would've easily killed him right then and there, but Lisa was no ordinary 17 year old. She'd only stabbed him in the leg, where he was sure to feel pain, but not die. Given the advantage needed, the 5'4, caramel, hazel eyed girl leapt from the floor, and ran towards her closet. There she grabbed the duffle bag she'd been secretly packing for the past five years in preparation for this day. With the bag in her hand, she sprinted for the door only to feel a cold hand on her right ankle.
"Where do you think you're going," he asked.
For the last time, she starred back in the green pair of eyes that belonged to the man that fertilized her mother's egg in the process of conception, the man that used to remind her of self worth, the man that taught her self defense, the man that convinced her to keep her fingers crossed while she was sleeping in order to fease away the monsters under her bed, the man that engraved in her that everyone was worth forgiving, for every bad guy was once and innocent baby.
She couldn't just leave him here to bleed to death...could she?
Turning away, her eyes scanned the room and landed on her dresser, there she spotted his cell phone. He must've put it down when he entered earlier. She grabbed it and quickly dialed 911 then placed the phone next to him when the operator answered.
He looked up at her in awe by her actions and she whispered "I love you."
As much as she wanted to kneel down and find out what happened to her once humble father, there was no other choice but to start a real life. So with a quick yank of her leg, she looked away and with tears in her eyes headed out the door.
Enough was enough.
