You watched Alexander as he spoke before the members of Washington's cabinet. He was currently indulging in an intense debate with the Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson. Alexander stated his case with such passion, and immediately countered all of Jefferson's rebuttals. There was captivating emotion behind every word that came out of his mouth. You watched as he lost himself in his argument as he always did. You admired that about him, which isn't saying much considering you admired almost everything about Alexander Hamilton. Of course it wasn't unusual for ladies to fawn over the young treasury secretary; Hamilton had many female callers, but in your case it was different. Those other women loved the idea of the man, you loved the person you had come to know over the past several months. In fact, before getting to know Alexander, you weren't very fond of him.

You were desperate for a job. You asked around and many people simply laughed in your face, mostly due to the fact that you were a woman. Nobody took you seriously, this had been the case throughout your entire life. You didn't want to conform to society's vision of what a woman should be, but escaping the stereotype proved to be very difficult. You didn't care what the job was, you just wanted to be employed.

"I could sweep around your store and tidy up," you offered in your latest attempt to find work for yourself. The older gentleman, a shopkeeper you had fallen upon on that glorious day, weeks upon weeks ago, was very vehement about having everything handled himself. You reluctantly sighed, and began exiting the small shop, only to run straight into a dark-haired man, the collision causing you to fall backward. Suddenly, you felt the pressure of the strange person on top of you. You let out a small yelp of surprise. The young man quickly rose from the ground, taking your hand to help you up.

"You must forgive me. I was caught up in my reading and lost sight of my surroundings," he said, slightly waving the small book he held in his hand.

"It's fine," you responded, but it was fairly obvious from your tone that it wasn't. You started around the man to leave but he stepped in front of you, blocking your path.

"Excuse me," You huffed. Annoyance was evident in your voice.

"My name is Alexander Hamilton. It's a pleasure to meet you..." He stopped mid-sentence as a way of asking your name. His face showed a very confident smirk.

"Um...thanks," you replied, "but unless you can give me a job, I should really be going now." You attempted to leave the building once more.

"Well, what experience do you have?" he asked, blocking the exit.

"Excuse me?" You were taken aback by what he said.

"Do you have any work experience?"

"It's hard to gain experience when no one is willing to give you a chance," you stated.

"I suppose that's true," he sighed, "How soon can you start?"

"Look, I don't have time for your execrable attempt at humor. Just because I'm a women doesn't make me an idiot. I know that no normal man would suddenly offer me a job for no reason, five minutes after meeting me. With all due respect, please stop wasting my time," You ranted, trying to remain civil even though you felt as if you were going to explode due to the colossal amount of irritation bubbling inside of you. Who did this man think he was? First he knocks you over, then he won't let you leave, and now he's trying to make a mockery of you!
