Cereal

I have never
Understood
How people can eat
Cornflakes
With milk.
Or dilute
Muesli blandness
With blueberries
Or strawberry
Sweetness.

I am

An oddity

I guess

But I have always
Loved
The dry scraping
Against my tongue,
The sound
Of my teeth
Crushing
The golden wisps
Resonating
Like an echo
Inside my head.
I have always
Loved the madness,
The crunchiness.
And I have
Gotten used to
Taking my critics
Blunt and plain,
With a tinge of
Saltiness.

I just wanted to capture that some things in life are often best enjoyed plain and simple without any frills. Sometimes, extraordinary beauty is born in difficult timings. And most times, harsh but truthful criticism is more helpful than false, sugar-coated praise-singing.

I got the inspiration or this poem while reading cleverwren 's Jefferson Drive. Go check out their amazing works!

And yes, I really do like my cereal lactose-free!
