Mayhem the Symbiote (A Deadpool X oc book)

1- Getting With The Enemy

"Help! Someone, anyone, please help!" A pleading shout rips through the air. Hearing the cry for help, I swing through the air, wanting to help any way I can. I pull myself over to the source of noise, seeing a burning building!

The voice calls again, "My baby! My baby is trapped in the attic!" I wait for a bit, enjoying her desperate pleads for help. _hmmm... I do need to get SHIELD's attention, maybe I should help this woman?_ I sigh, resigning myself to my fate.

Squaring my shoulders and stepping out of the shadows, I run up to the woman. "Are you ok? Is there anything I can do to help?" She cries out in response, sobbing, "Oh, thank God! I thought no one was going to come!" Oh, God's not here today, lady... "My baby is trapped in the attic! You look like a strong young man, can you please save her?" I give her my best smile, hoping it doesn't come off as too sinister.

I rush off through the front door, letting my symbiote costume envelope my face so I can see and breath. Oh, did I mention? I am the host of the symbiote offspring of Toxin. My symbiote's name is Mayhem. Toxin has no idea of my existence, but I'm getting bored of keeping it that way. I'm ready to have some real fun.

I quickly run up the crumbling stairs to the top floor, the fire and heat not bothering me in the least. Extreme heat, cold, sadness, happiness, lust... *Ahem.* That's my thing. Everything on the ends of a spectrum, whether it be emotions, actions, or temperatures.

I try to look around, but the smoke up here is as thick as a wall! I blink meaningfully and my eyes start perceiving heat vision.
I gaze around and I finally find the child! The stupid mother had left her up here while she ran to safety... Just then I hear a light *thump* and a voice I recognize.

Crap! Spider-man's here! I roughly grab the baby and run back down the stairs - well, more like jump down the hole where the fire had eaten the stairs away.

As I run out the front door I make sure that Mayhem is still around my body a little, as if he was protecting me from the fire.

Spider-man gasps as he looks at me, and I feign surprise and a little fear as I "realize" that a superhero had just seen me with my symbiotic costume. I let Mayhem sink back into my skin as I gently hand the baby back to the woman.

"W-who are you? Was that a symbiote?!" Wow, Spider-man, I expected you to be a little more discreet...

"I... What are you going to do to me? Please don't hurt me!" I hated to act like a scared little wimp, but I have to play the role just right so he'll invite me into SHIELD.

"Don't worry, kid, I won't hurt you! But... I need you to come with me." Wow, right to the point! Wait... Kid?! I'm older that him! I struggle to contain my rage, and keep a worried smile on my face.

"I've heard about you, Spider-man. I hear you're a good guy... Will you help me? The... Symbiote is telling me to do bad things, but I don't want to." Bullshit! I was this bad WAY before I had Mayhem! I just finally found the power to act on my thoughts...

He leads me away from the stricken mother and we walk to a secluded alleyway - presumably so that no one would hear him tell me all SHIELD's secrets as he invited me to the place.
"We'll help you, don't worry!"

"We? Who's we?!" I act a little panicked now. I need this idiot to think I'm a wimp so he'll trust me.

"My team and I! I'm from a group of really nice people who call themselves SHIELD. They're a bunch of really uptight spy people who can't take a good joke, but don't worry! They are really nice people, I promise." Wow, he sure says 'nice people' and 'really' a lot.

"T-thanks but... Are you sure they can help me? I don't want to be in the way..." God, I sound like such a wimp. I hate this part of the mission...

I won't bore you with the details of the rest of the story, but basically, he kept saying that SHIELD was full of 'really nice people', and he eventually "convinced" me to come along by saying they could help me... How, exactly?
