I wake up from a long, restful sleep. Standing up is hard on my knee, which still has a bruise from running into the table. The coffee pot whistles and I grab a random blue mug from the half empty shelf. Pouring in the perfect amount of cream and coffee, I head to the beat up, old recliner sitting in the corner of my wallpapered living room, flipping on the television to the news.

"Communication has continued as the Aliens still claim to want peace..." I spit out the hot coffee and rub my eyes. Staring at the screen, I hang on the reporter's every word.

"They arrived late last night, declaring peace. Most people were frightened, but a brave few continued communications with them from the laboratory in Washington D.C. The government has taken over communications and has asked the media to relay a message, "The extraterrestrials have asked that a select group of citizens to board a ship and travel to the mother ship. These people will negotiate peace and will report back to us. Here are the people that they have selected to go: Lillian Verker, Sidan Herring, Variart Diker, and Tarris Carden."" Me? They called Tarris Carden, as in me? What?!

"Military escorts are arriving at the residences of these persons now. They will bring them to the ship that just touched down in this empty lot. Thank you for watching, stations will now return to their scheduled programing." And with that the tv clicked to show the weather.

I flopped back against the chair in shock. "They want me to go to space? With aliens? In a space ship? Since when do aliens even exist?!" a knock on my door sent my flying up, only to land three feet away. I ran into my room and pulled a tee and faded jeans over my boxers. Walking to the door, I ran a hand through my hair before pulling it open. Two men with sunglasses and suits stood proud on the porch, towering over me. "Tarris Carden, you need to come with us." Fallowing them to a sleek black car I slide in the front seat and focused on the road ahead; determined not to remind my self of what they were asking me to do.

We drove for exactly 48 minutes before pulling into a heavily guarded base that had a huge, surprisingly normal looking, ship behind it. the escorted me in and we walked down cold, cement halls before entering a dull conference room. Three others, I assumed to be the people called on the news, sat around the table with a man in uniform at the head of the table. He gave a speech, that I didn't listen to, and sent us off to the ship. Walking like a robot, I boarded and stopped dead in my tracks at the sight. A real alien with purplish, greenish skin covered with slime gestured to a seat. A nudge from the person behind me got me moving again and I sat in the chair chosen for me.

The next thing I knew we were up in the air and more aliens came down to where we were sitting.

"Hello earthlings. We thank you for willingly coming to meet with us, but we must inform you how foolish it was. We did not want peace, we simply wanted four humans that we could use as tools to help us learn more about Earth." Restraints popped out from the chair and held our arms and legs. "You will be implanted with a system that will take over your body. You will not remember the next year or so of your life and will probably spend the rest of it, after that, in our custody as slaves. Thank you again, for your contribution to our noble cause." He smiled evilly and my chair started to move. It wheeled me down the hall and into an empty room where a needle was inserted into my neck. Everything went fuzzy before I blacked out, never to be the same again.
