Head in his hands for what seems like hours, Sam gives his best effort not to scream at nothing and no one in frustration. He's "home" alone. But of course, Sam doesn't feel as if he's really had a home - not one that contained supernatural, haunting activities nor one that belongs to a father figure and friend - just minimalist motels that suits his and his brother's needs rather than one designed to impress. After all, the Winchesters aren't ones to brag about the way they live.
He replaces the sight of his pitch-black palms with the sight of a pinned up map surrounded by pictures and notes written in two styles of messy handwriting. Clearly, the owners of such handwritings were in a rush to leave. Concentrating on each waypoint on the map while scrunching his eyebrows (a tendency of Sam's. He often gets migraines from focusing on something for too long), he decides to look away; the reflection of the desk light in his eyes waves a white flag. Mere seconds later, he hears a repetitive sound, followed by buzzing. What better time does his mobile phone sitting on the desk in front of him ring? But it's an unknown number...
"Hello? Who is this?" Sam asks wearily. He feels like sleeping, not working or socialising with people.
"Wow, so this is how your voice sounds on the phone? I don't really know what I expected." Answered cheerfully by a voice belonging to a woman, the anonymous number. Sam hears an internal click in his head, before noticing his heart is beating faster.
"Wait, are you that girl I gave my phone number to, say, 3 days ago?"
"Why yes. So nice that you remembered. Maybe I called at the wrong time, though? You sound really tired, Sam-"
"No, no, it's fine! I'm glad you called, I was starting to think you'd f-forget as well..." He replies, now wishing that he said that smoothly. He heard her say his name for the first time, and he grins widely at nothing. Technically, to him, he showed weakness by saying he'd been thinking about the call that's happening now, and is she going to think lowly of him because of it?
The cheerful lady at the end of the line chuckles just enough. That's what's on his mind: her chuckle wasn't going on for too long, too short, too loudly or too quiet for him to hear. He thought it was just enough, and he really liked it.
"So I've got to ask. What's your name, again?" Sam musters up the nerve to ask.
"Well, not again because I never actually told you my name." They laugh. "My name is Angel."
"Really?" Sam asks rhetorically, internally celebrating the personal achievement of hearing it from her. "It's such a nice name. Has anyone ever told you that?"
"Well... yes, but I'll still take the compliment," she says equally joyfully.
Then a thought suddenly popped into Sam's head. He wonders...
"I know this sounds weird, but... do you still have that denim jacket from Sunday?"
"That is kind of weird, but yeah, of course. It has only been 3 days. Why-"
"And did you wear it on Monday?"
This took Angel a few seconds to answer, which almost made Sam believe that she ended the call in that moment.
"I think so... You're acting really strange, Sam, what's wrong?"
Sam finds it difficult to inhale. "Nothing, don't worry. I'm fine. Listen, I've got to go. Speak soon."
"Okay... If you say you're fine. Talk to you later, Sa-" and with that, Sam ended the call first. He half wishes he didn't, but he knew he had to inform Dean, whatever it's worth.
@@@ 3 days before her call @@@
Sam and Angel (A.K.A. the girl) met each other in real life 3 days ago on a rainy day. He and his brother was seeking shelter from the rain - he didn't like getting his hair wet, for which his brother, Dean, calls him "bitch" multiple times - and ended up in a bar. Dean was already at the counter ordering a beer, but before Sam could sit on a stool next to him, a lady bumped into him, muttering her apologies.
