Severus snape the spy of one Albus dumbledore was leaving the supposedly protected house of Lily and James Potter. Little did anyone know all the tales that were told of the night that the world's perfect couple was murdered, was all a lie. Lily and James did not marry for love like many believed they did, they married each other as a protection.  Lily had a relationship with the said Severus snape, in secret of course because of a discovery they both found out. 

It was just a regular visit Sirius knew and so did the dark lord but the werewolf was kept in the dark along with the rat. If Dumbledore found out that we knew his secret and who Harrison's real father was. Severus wouldn't have a backup plan and a backup, backup plan. If Dumbledore did take harry and Severus couldn't find him until he got his hogwarts letter or the wards where he lived fell then Minerva would take harry to the Malfoy family and hope for the best.  

This night after Severus regular visit Dumbledore arrived and killed Lily and James. Taking harry and placing him with some strange muggle family convincing them they were Lily's sister. Lily's sister had been a muggle-born just like Lily had been and died in lily's 6 year at hogwarts in a horrible magic accident.  So who ever albus put Harry in wasn't a family member. 

This put young harry's life in danger, though it was unclear how much danger harry was in he still was in danger. The first thing Dumbledore did was leave the 18 month old baby on the door step of the muggles he was using. He didn't put any wards for harry's safety just those to keep those with voldemort's mark out and harry in all tied to harry thinking that the muggles were his real and only family.
