1978

"You look beautiful, Sara," Lucas said, walking up behind me and helping to put on my necklace.

I looked at my porcelain reflection in the mirror, adjusting the moon pendant Lucas just fastened around my neck, and smiled.

Lucas was constantly reminding me of how beautiful I was; though, I never understood where he saw the beauty. Was it the long, frizzy, curls in my light blonde hair? The nude-coloured lipstick that I never left the house without? How about the long flowing dresses I always wore? I just couldn't figure out where he saw beauty in me. Lucas, on the other hand, was gorgeous. He had beautiful brown, curly locks on his head. His striking blue eyes would always seem to penetrate your soul when he looked at you. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I was good enough for Lucas. I always wondered why he stayed for so long.

"Are you almost ready to go?" Lucas asked me.

I nodded and sat down on our bed to put on my black heels. I stood back up and almost fell to the ground when my long, white, flowing dress got caught in my heels. Luckily, Lucas caught my arm before I hit the ground.

"I told you those things are a death trap," Lucas joked about my heels.

"But they are so gorgeous," I whined.

"Well, maybe, I'll just have to carry you to the car so you don't fall," Lucas winked.

"Maybe, you might," I laughed.

As I stood back up to walk to the car, Lucas swooped my up into his arms and laughed.

"I didn't think you'd actually do it," I said, as he walked into the kitchen setting me on the countertop.

"What do you say we just skip this thing and got back upstairs?" Lucas grinned, leaning in and kissing me.

"I'd love nothing more than to skip my best-friend's wedding, but I think that it pretty important for the Maid of Honor to be there," I said.

"Hmm, I guess you're right," Lucas moaned.

"Listen, after the reception, we can come back to this huge, beautiful, empty house..." I said pulling his tie to pull him in closer to me. "Well, you get the picture." I whispered. "But, right now, we need to go to a wedding."

"Ladies first," Lucas said, holding open the door for me, then rushing around me to get to the car before I did so he could open that door, too.

Lucas was such a kind-hearted gentleman. He was nothing like the rest of the men of his age. How did I get so lucky to have him walk into my life? Plus, his car was an added bonus.

I got into the front seat of his black, four-door 67 Impala and he closed the door.

And you can tell everybody, this is your song.

It may be quite simple, but now that it's done

I hope you don't mind, I hope you mind

That I put down in words how wonderful life is

When you're in the world.
